Physician, Heal Yourself 医生啊,治好你自己吧
Luke 4:23: Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”
路 加 福 音 4:23: 耶稣又说∶“当然你们会对我引用这句俗话:医生啊,治好你自己吧。你们还会说:我们已经听说了你在迦百农的所作所为,那么,就在你的家乡再做一遍吧!” (page 1664)
John 5:24: “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”
約 翰 福 音 5:24 :“我实话告诉你们,谁听我的话,又信仰派我来的那位,谁就会得到永生,就不会被定罪,他就已经出死入生了。" (page 1725)
1 Cor 1:30,31: “It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption— in order that, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”
(pg 1848)
Psalm 143:5: I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all Your works and consider what Your hands have done.
詩 篇 143:5: 我 追 想 古 时 之 日 , 思 想 你 的 一 切 作 为 , 默 念 你 手 的 工 作 。(page 1026)
Heb 12:2 - We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did.
(page 1955)

Heal
Thyself
Luke
4:23
Monday
morning
–
waking
up
after
a
near
sleepless
Sunday
night.
Even
my
coffee
needed
coffee.
I
found
myself
re-reading
my
message
from
the
previous
day.
I
needed
to
“hear”
that
message
again
for
myself.
Sometimes
even
with
all
the
best
intentions
in
the
world,
I
still
find
myself
coming
up
short
again
the
promises
I
make
to
myself
concerning
having
more
discipline,
better
habits
and
routines.
Things
I
need
to
do
or
undo
to
achieve
what
I
want
to
achieve.
People
are
sometimes
grateful
for
compulsive
duties
because
if
they
didn't
have
those,
they
wouldn't
know
what
to
do
with
themselves.
We
fill
our
lives
with
“stuff”
–
sometimes
harmful
stuff,
when
our
lives
are
not
fulfilling.
Do
you
understand
what
I'm
talking
about?
We
can
have
all
of
these
other
things
fulfilled
and
yet,
ant
the
end
of
the
day
we
still
end
up
in
front
of a
mirror.
?
Don't
you
think
it's
about
time
that
we
slowed
down,
that
we
sat
down
quietly
somewhere
and
we
looked
inside
our
lives
and
we
looked
around
at
the
results
of
our
living
up
until
now
and
we
say
to
ourselves,
'As
much
as I
resist
self-change,
self-investigation,
self-knowledge
- as
much
as I
resist
it,
I'm
going
to
go
ahead
with
it
anyway
because
my
life
as I
am
now
unliving
it,
not
living
it,
my
life
as I
am
now
living
is
not
expressing
all
that
is
within
me –
all
that
God
created
me
to
be.'"
(last
week)
"Personal
growth
is a
process
where
we
begin
to
lose
the
limitations
of
who
we
were
in
recognition
of
who
we
can
become."
(YouTube)
Kung
Fu
Master
training
an
American
man:
“In
order
to
create
something
new
on
you,
you
need
to
get
rid
of
some
old
stuff
…and
getting
rid
of
some
old
stuff
sometimes
means
it's
painful,
because
this
world
is
not
teaching
you
how
to
let
go
of
things.
This
world
is
teaching
you
how
to
try
and
get
more
and
more.”
(from
last
week)
Jesus
said
in
John
12:24
–
“Very
truly
I
tell
you,
unless
a
kernel
of
wheat
falls
to
the
ground
and
dies,
it
remains
only
a
single
seed.
But
if
it
dies,
it
produces
many
seeds.”
?
What
do
you
need
to
die
to
in
order
to
come
back
to
life
– to
a
new
beginning?
We
all
still
are
a
work
in
progress,
but
start
at
the
right
truth
–
this
scripture:
John
5:24:
“I
tell
you
the
truth,
those
who
listen
to
my
message
and
believe
in
God
who
sent
me
have
eternal
life.
They
will
never
be
condemned
for
their
sins,
but
they
have
already
passed
from
death
into
life.”
“Physician,
heal
thyself”
This
is
Jesus
quoting
an
Old
Testament
saying.
In
layman’s
terms,
“before
attempting
to
correct
others,
make
sure
that
you
aren't
guilty
of
the
same
faults.
I
used
to
have
someone
I
worked
with
(on
my
days
on
the
night
shift)_
that
would
deliberately
try
to
irritate
me
and
harass
me –
all
night
long
–
until
I
finally
lost
my
cool
and
snapped
back
at
him.
–
and
then
he
would
grin
a
devilish
grin
and
say,
“Uh
Huh.
Got
you!”
Although
even
the
Apostle
Paul
admitting
to
weakness
and
shortcomings,
as
Christians,
we
are
held
to a
higher
standard
than
what
the
rest
of
the
world
is
accountable
to.
The
world
is
looking
to
us
to
fall
– or
at
least
stumble
badly
enough
that
they
can
say,
“Uh-HUH!”
Like
the
Pharisees
saying
of
Jesus,
“Isn’t
this
Joseph’s
son?”
they
want
to
point
to
us
and
say,
“I
know
you.
I
grew
up
right
down
the
street
from
you.
You’ll
blow
it
soon.
enough.
You
may
call
yourself
a
Christian,
but
you’re
not
any
better
than
the
rest
of
us.”
Prov
24:16
“ …
for
though
the
righteous
fall
seven
times”
We
have
to
fight
the
good
fight
of
faith.
We
have
to
go
from
Worrier
to
Warrior.
1
Cor
1:30,31:
“It
is
from
him
that
you
are
in
Christ
Jesus,
who
became
wisdom
from
God
for
us—our
righteousness,
sanctification,
and
redemption—
in
order
that,
as
it
is
written:
‘Let
the
one
who
boasts,
boast
in
the
Lord.’”
Our
spiritual
growth
and
sanctification
is a
work
of
God,
through
the
Word
of
God
and
the
Holy
Spirit
as
we
make
that
our
desire,
our
devotion,
and
let
go
and
let
God
do
the
work
in
us.
How
to
Let
Go
and
Let
God,
One
Day
at a
Time
1.
Identify
what
you
can
control—and
what
you
can't.
...
2.
Address
what
you
can
control.
...
3.
Surrender
what
you
can't
control.
...
4.
Meditate
on
the
promises
of
your
faithful
God.
...
5.
Choose
a
“letting
go”
motto.
(Declaration
of
Faith)
6.
Resolve
not
to
act
on
fear
but
on
faith.
1)
Identify
what
you
can
control—and
what
you
can’t.
controlling
what
you
can—not
what
you
can’t.
Much
of
our
inability
to
“let
go
and
let
God”
stems
from
our
failure
to
recognize
that
often
the
things
that
stress
us
and
worry
us
are
things
we
can’t
control.
(why
I
rarely
watch
the
news)
2)
Address
what
you
can
control.
Take
appropriate
action.
In
fact,
very
often,
inactivity
breeds
worry,
even
depression.
One
antidote
to
worry
and
stress
is
action.
So,
instead
of
brooding
over
your
situation,
take
action
on
the
things
you
can
control
(which
almost
exclusively
pertain
to
you
and
your
attitudes;
funny
how
that
works).
3)
Surrender
what
you
can’t
control.
In
the
words
of
the
late
theologian
E.
Stanley
Jones,
“Surrender
the
thing
you
fear
into
the
hands
of
God.
Turn
it
right
over
to
God
and
ask
Him
to
solve
it
with
you.
Fear
is
keeping
things
in
your
own
hands;
faith
is
turning
them
over
into
the
hands
of
God—and
leaving
them
there.”
“Instead
of
worrying
about
what
you
cannot
control,
shift
your
energy
to
what
you
can
create.”
4)
Meditate
on
the
promises
of
your
faithful
God.
The
psalmist
sang,
“I
remember
the
days
of
long
ago;
I
meditate
on
all
Your
works
and
consider
what
Your
hands
have
done”
-
Psalm
143:5
Replace
your
frantic
thoughts
with
calming
thoughts,
based
on
God’s
promises
such
as,
“Never
will
I
leave
you;
never
will
I
forsake
you.”
-
Hebrews
13:5
5)
Choose
a
“letting
go”
motto.
Select
a
memorable
verse
or
phrase
that
you
can
repeat
to
yourself
throughout
the
day
to
keep
your
mind
and
spirit
from
descending
into
worry.
For
example,
“in
quietness
and
in
confidence
shall
be
your
strength”
(Isaiah
30:15,
KJV)
or
“It
is
well
with
my
soul.”
You
might
even
choose
a
new
one
every
day
or
every
week.
6)
Resolve
not
to
act
on
fear
but
on
faith.
To
quote
Methodist
missionary
E.
Stanley
Jones
again,
“Never
act
on a
fear,
for
fears
are
usually
false….
Don’t
build
your
life
according
to
any
pattern
shown
to
you
in
the
valley
of
fear.
Wait
till
you
get
to
the
mount
of
faith
and
then
build
your
life
plans.”
What
is
keeping
you
stuck
in
patterns
that
do
not
produce
good
results
in
your
daily
life?
Stop
identifying
as
“I
Am”
with
things
that
are
undesirable
and
start
making
time
to
analyze
those
patterns
of
thought
and
actions.
We
need
Divine
Replacement
of
those
stumbling
blocks.
7)
Focus
your
mind
and
heart
on
trusting
God
today.
Jesus
said,
“Do
not
worry
about
tomorrow,
for
tomorrow
will
worry
about
itself.
Each
day
has
enough
trouble
of
its
own”
(Matthew
6:34,
NIV).
Jesus
didn’t
suggest
that
we
won’t
have
trouble;
far
from
it.
(“In
this
world
you
will
have
tribulation”)
He
did
say,
however,
that
we
should
focus
our
minds
and
hearts
on
this
day
and
its
challenges.
That’s
plenty.
The
same
God
who
is
with
us
and
empowers
us
to
meet
today
will
be
there
tomorrow.
So
maybe
“let
go
and
let
God”
isn’t
expecting
too
much.
If,
that
is,
we
do
it
one
day
at a
time.
Prayer
of
St
Francis:
“It
is
in
dying
that
we
are
born
to
eternal
life.”
•
Can
we
die
to
our
fears?
•
Can
we
die
to
our
previous
stories
of
failure
and
regrets?
•
Our
“somebody
done
somebody
wrong
song?”
Daily
desire
and
pursuit
of
GOD
“Morning,
by
morning…”
Heb
12:2
- We
must
keep
our
eyes
on
Jesus,
who
leads
us
and
makes
our
faith
complete.
He
endured
the
shame
of
being
nailed
to a
cross,
because
he
knew
that
later
on
he
would
be
glad
he
did.
