    Self Love

Matt 22:36-39: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? ”Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
(page 1600)
Romans 13:8: Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
(page 1841)
Galatians 5:14 – “For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:
    "Love your neighbor as yourself."
(page 1891)
Matt 7:12: “In everything you do, be careful to treat others in the same way you’d want them to treat you, for that is the essence of all the teachings of the Law and the Prophets.”
(page 1568)
Isaiah 43:18,19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
(page 1183)

    Self Love?
    Matthew 22:36-40
Lent may be a time for self-denial – but not self-abuse. “Rend your hearts”
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ –
    ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
    No problem, right? ;)
Romans 13:8 – “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.”
“Love hurts nobody: therefore love is the answer to the Law’s commands.”
Galatians 5:14 – “For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:
    "Love your neighbor as yourself."
“For all the law can be summarized in one grand statement: ‘Demonstrate love to your neighbor, even as you care for and love yourself.’”
It’s hard to love people sometimes – at least, when we’re looking at the external realities. (I know I can very un-lovable at times)
Some people are a real mess.
You don't have to love people's mess, but you got to love them
Sometimes that means loving them enough to not let them push you around, because if you love yourself you'll have self dignity and you won't allow people to hurt you like you maybe used to.
"Forgive us our debts…" It's hard to forgive someone who borrows $ and doesn't pay back… ...but you have to pardon them.
...and you have to forgive YOURSELF for loaning it to them to begin with.
    "Go and sin no more"
Tough Love. It will help you – and help them.
We tell the world how to treat us.
Loving our neighbor as ourselves… how can we possibly do that?
Let’s stop being religious and get practical…
How can you love that person that gets on your nerves? That stole from you?
    That gossips about you?
We have to see them as God sees them. God’s perfect ideal in the making.
Psalm 139:14 - “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
“I know the plans I have for you…”
God sees us with the purpose and potential He created us with.
He knows what we can become through Christ.
? Wouldn’t it be great if we all saw ourselves like that, too?
We so often judge others – and we judge ourselves – by our past choices.
(we beat ourselves up over them)
Self-loathing is not a form of holiness.
We know we need to "love our neighbor as ourselves" - isn't it so hard to do sometimes?
Today’s scripture indicates that we have to start by loving ourselves?
“I don’t necessarily want people to love me the same way they love themselves.” (hurt people)
The problem of fear, unforgiveness and guilt.
    See beyond the façade.
You've got to look beyond the façade and understand hurt people hurt people.
We’re always projecting what’s on the inside of us.
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.” ~ Plato
One of the best ways to walk in love with others is to simply admit that YOU (“me”)
    - we don't have it all figured out, either.
The Truth hurts, but it can set you free.

If you want God's grace to be sufficient for you, you've got to stop thinking and acting like YOU'RE sufficient. (we are enough – but only through Christ)
Right thinking produces right results. A change of heart will produce a changed life.
As much as the unsaved need to know this, who I am addressing is we Children of God who have a born-again spirit but a mind and heart that need to be renewed to the truth.
Who you see in the mirror may not be who you really are.
We put so many limitations on ourselves. (‘you are not your thoughts’)
We sometimes act like our limitations are a “godly” thing (for some reason)
We act from our self-image (like it or not) Self-loving or self-loathing
Self-loathing is not a form of holiness.
When you limit yourself - when you don't love yourself –
    - you limit what you can do - and even worse, you limit what God can do through you.
You limit what God can do through you for others (the people He gave to you to serve)
…so you've got to start by loving yourself.
Just like it’s sometimes hard to love others, it’s hard to love yourself when you’re only looking at external results.
When you love yourself, you take the limits off what God can accomplish through your life.
"Someone’s opinion of you isn't reality... unless you decide to allow it!!
    - You are who God says you are!!"
We often limit ourselves based on past choices and the opinion of others.
“What you think of me is none of my business.”
You’ve judged yourself and come up short… now you feel condemned to a life of lack, loss and limitation.
You say things like, “I’m not able to do that.” We are defined by our “I Am’s”
    But wait…
    * Isn’t it true - You have been crucified with Christ… and the life you NOW lead…
So if it's Christ's life living in you… how can you live in lack, loss & limitation?
How can you speak badly about yourself?
Matt 7:12: “In everything you do, be careful to treat others in the same way you’d want them to treat you, for that is the essence of all the teachings of the Law and the Prophets.”
If your old life is gone – and it is Christ living in you…
…then the “I Am” you are speaking of is your new life in Christ who says He “makes all things possible.” ( )
We can do all things through Christ – because it is Christ within us.
    HE is the Vine …
HE is able to do exceeding abundantly… according to the Power that works within us.
Christ IN you. (“the Kingdom is within you”)
So how dare we limit the Christ in Us?
How can you condemn yourself to remaining in the old patterns, hurts and failures?
     I understand self-loathing. I understand deep regrets.

Isaiah 43:18,19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
We say, “I am this… and I am that…” based on our past behaviors.
If we look to our past to determine the future, we are destined for discouragement.
Yet – it is Christ IN us – He IS the great I Am.
To say, “I AM not any good.” – is a total lack of faith.
To say "I Am" and express some sort of limitation or discouraging words is to limit God – it is almost blasphemy. (unintentionally so)
We all know people who spend all their time tearing down other people.
It's because they are torn down inside.
When someone goes around criticizing others, they are no doubt full of that on the inside.
We’ve gotta allow the love of God to be shed abroad in our hearts.
Make room for Him to fill you up with His love.
When you are “Practicing the Presence,” you walk in LOVE.
    You walk in His completeness.
Learn to love yourself by tapping into God’s love for you.
If you do that, you cannot help but love others as well.
True Believer - You are God’s Child. His life is within you.
To all of this, add the Power of Belief.
Dr T.L. Osborn - “When you hear God's promises and believe them, you will be planting His miracle seeds in your life. They WILL produce what they say.”
God sees each of us with the full potential He put inside of us. The purpose He planted in our souls.
Even the worst person you know (even if it’s only your opinion) has a God-given mission to fulfill… Even if they never fulfill it.
? How are you coming with yours?
Sometimes we never really give others a chance.
We make them stay stuck in their failures. Forever in a debt of sin.
Are you living under that weight yourself today? Are you ready to be free?
TRUTH: “You have to bring YOU with you, wherever you go.” (successes and failures)
Who you are now is not who you were then.
It’s time to stop reinforcing those old memories (and mistakes)of the past
You are not your past – you are who you decide to embrace and become - or reject and avoid – because of God’s redemption and restoration made available for your life.
Are you “complete in Him” – NOW?
You’ve gotta love others, and it starts by loving yourself.
The self God created you to become.
Today is your day to close the door of the past and let God show you who you are in Christ. A brand new creation. All things made new.
Are you ready to become all that God plans for you to be?
Isaiah 43:18,19: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (this is the true lent God calls us to)
    “Just because You love me.”
(the lesson of salvation, Holy Communion and walking in love)
    ….because YOU first loved us.
