Growing Up – Growing On  成长——成熟
1 Cor 13:11,12: When I was a child, I spoke about childish matters, for I saw things like a child and reasoned like a child. But the day came when I matured, and I set aside my childish ways. For now we see but a faint reflection of riddles and mysteries as though reflected in a mirror, but one day we will see face-to-face. My understanding is incomplete now, but one day I will understand everything, just as everything about me has been fully understood.

1 Peter 4:7: The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
    彼得前书 4:7: 万物的尽头快到了。因此,你们要谨慎自律,
    警醒祷告。(page 1970)

Exodus 3:11: But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
    出埃及 3:11: 但摩西对上帝说:“我是谁啊?怎么能去见法老,把以色列人从埃及领出来呢?” (page 96)
Prov 12:18 …the words of the wise brings healing.
    箴言 12:18: 智者之言却能医治创伤。(page 1050)
Heb 5:11: There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.
    希伯来书 5:11: 关于这方面的事,我们还有很多话要说,但因为你们已经听不进去,很难向你们解释。(page 1944)
Matt 22:29: But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.
    马太福音 22:29: 耶稣说:“你们弄错了。你们不明白圣经,也不知道上帝的能力。(page 1600)

    Growing Up – Growing On
    1 Cor 13:11-13
“For things to change, we have to change.” ~ Jim Rohn
“Your best thinking got you here.” – Gavin Topp

If you desire to change – you must be dissatisfied with where you are.
If you don’t desire to change – then you must already be satisfied with where you are?
I don’t see anywhere in the Bible that is described as the land of “good enough.”

When we’re green we grow – when we’re ripe, we rot.

When people sense that feeling of dissatisfaction, they either seek after answers, or seek to numb that feeling until it goes away. (food, tv, sleep)

The line at the Quickie Store is filled with people buying alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets as a way to escape the need for change.

“Don't Underestimate What You (already) Have”
Zechariah 4:10 – “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…”
“When David faced Goliath, in the natural, all he had was a slingshot and five smooth stones. It looked insignificant and ordinary, nothing special. But God breathed on it, and he defeated Goliath and became the king of Israel. Sampson was surrounded by a huge army. Everywhere he looked there were horses, chariots and weapons. All he had was the jawbone of a donkey. No weapon. No armor. Nobody backing him up. But he picked up that jawbone, God breathed on it, and he defeated 1,000 men; the whole army. All Moses had was on ordinary stick, something he found on the ground. Yet, when he picked it up and held that rod in the air, the Red Sea supernaturally parted.
Today, don’t underestimate what you have. It may look small and insignificant. Compared to what you’re facing, things may seem impossible; but when God breathes on your life, the odds dramatically change!
Stay open, keep expecting, stay close to Him - and watch Him do something extraordinary in your life!” (I know we are ALL capable of so much more)
(we’ve all seen the screaming child in the department store)
“Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want now.”
Isn’t that a true sign of maturity?

1 Peter 4:7: The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
The hardest part about change is getting started.
You have to overcome your biggest enemy to change – YOU.
“"If only I was... Then I could..." - Instead, assess how God has gifted you now, as you are, & start using your gift.” ~ Bruxy Cavey
Exodus 3: “Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”
When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.””
God told Moses, “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel out of Egypt.” …and Moses asked God, “Who am I?”
Have you ever felt like that?
Profound: Just because you have a burning bush experience doesn’t mean you will end up actually doing God’s will.
You can spend your whole life stuck in one place.
You can let your doubt, unbelief – or just plain apathy keep you from moving forward.
A grown-up is responsible for creating their own unique value in life. Contribution.
1 Cor 13:11 – “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”
When we sense that feeling of dissatisfaction, we either seek after answers, or seek to numb that feeling until it goes away.

Moses could have gone back to tending Jethro’s sheep. (a distraction)
(he didn’t have Netflix back then)
He had to decide to step up and step out.
Out of his comfort zone. Out of his fear and self-doubt.
To fulfill God’s plan, Moses had to grow up fast.
Moses had a lot of questions for God. God had an answer to every one of them!
God said, “I will certainly be with you.”
Moses struggled – but the fact that he asked questions instead of just running away made all the difference. He didn’t just give-in to his fears.
Exodus 4:1-5 (read) The Lord said to Moses, “What is in your hand?”
When we’re ready to change, when we’re finally ready to put away childish things – to trade our old wineskins for new ones, God starts with us where we are.
“What is in your hand?” ( )
“…only one out of every nine people acts on the desire for something new and different, and radically changes behavior.”
For some of you, that may be reason enough to just give up without even starting.
Say “No” to that voice today.
“Take the first step of faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
I am blessed to have some strong mentors in my life. We may not connect often, but when we do – whether live or a Zoom call, it is life-changing.
How does the impact occur? Through the conversation. Words.
Prov 12:18 “the words of the wise brings healing.”
When Randy Anderson (Chief Operations Officer, Modexus) and I talked on the phone and he offered to fly in to Columbus to meet with me, I could have said “No.”

I doubted that I would be worth the stop for him. I could have refused an offer too good to refuse. I could have just honestly said I was “too busy.”
“If your product can change someone’s life, it is your obligation to sell it.”

Meetings with great people can change our lives forever.
What will you do with what (and who) God puts in your hand?
“A grown-up is responsible for creating their own unique value in life.”
God puts a Divine Dissatisfaction within in us to propel us toward our Divine Destiny.

It may get suppressed at times – sometimes due to circumstances and events beyond our control… but that fire can be rekindled.
(protect it if you possibly can) Candle analogy
“The starting point of all achievement is desire.” ~ Napoleon Hill
Prov 13:12 – “…a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.”
“We get out of life what we put into it – but also what we look for.
It’s not about what we want – it is about who we are.”
What is the fruit of our life? The results we are producing?
For things to change – we have to change. Our faith has to grow up.

How does our faith grow? (“Faith comes by hearing…”)
Heb 5:11: There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen.
You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right.
Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”
When you are very young you have to eat baby food. But who wants to *keep eating it? *there are those who will want you to keep eating it throughout your whole life
“Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.”
    Right thinking produces right results.
The BIG things God has for us won’t come without growing up.
It is a process of change. Taking a good nutritional supplement one day does not change the course of your life – neither will one devotional.
Commitment to the process of Change is Crucial.
    “Because I Said I Would”
The Children of Israel (throughout their Old Testament existence) had an endless cycle of rebellion, repentance and restoration.
We don’t have to live like that. Jesus said in Matthew 22:29 - "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.”
Get dissatisfied with the endless cycle of rebellion, repentance and restoration and just decide to step up and step out. Come OUT from the complacent ones around you.

Get excited about having more of God – and more of His Power in your daily life.
1 Cor 15:34 – “Awake to righteousness, and sin not…”
To “awake to righteousness” means to wake-up to who you have been made to be.
    (we are His workmanship)
Stop looking at who you were – and look at who Christ has made you to be.
2 Cor 5:20, 21: “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
The Lord said to Moses, “What is in your hand?”
The Lord speaks the same words to you and me today.
Father, today I bless You and glorify You. Thank You for taking what I have in my hand and breathing Your life into it. Today, I expect the extraordinary. I expect to see You move on my behalf as I give You the praise and glory in all things in Jesus’ name. Amen
