John 8:31,32: Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my
disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
    约翰福音 8:31,32: 耶稣对信祂的犹太人说:“你们若持守我的道,就真是我的门徒了。 你们必认识真理,真理必叫你们得到
    自由。” (page 1734)
Eph 5:1: Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children.
    以弗所书 5:1: 因此,你们既然是上帝疼爱的儿女,就要效法上帝。
    (page 1899)

Col 1:9-11: Since the day we heard these things about you, we have continued praying for you. This is what we pray: that God will make you completely sure of what he wants by giving you all the wisdom and spiritual understanding you need; that this will help you live in a way that brings honor to the Lord and pleases him in every way; that your life will produce good works of every kind and that you will grow in your knowledge of God; that God will strengthen you with his own great power, so that you will be patient and not give up when troubles come.
John 13:35: Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
    约翰福音 13:35: "你们如果彼此相爱,世人就会认出你们是我的门徒。” (page 1747)

    Footprints of Jesus - 2024
    John 8:31-36

Christian - a believer in Jesus Christ and His teachings
Acts 11:26 - “…The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.”
    Christian - a follower of Christ - a disciple

Jesus: “If you live by what I say, you are truly my disciples.”

Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling, “Come, follow Me!”
And we see where Thy footprints falling - lead us to Thee.
    Footprints of Jesus, That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus where’er they go.

? What does it really mean to follow in the footprints of Jesus?

As children, we often imitate our parents:
“He is following in his father’s footsteps.”
Mirroring their parents. (for better or for worse)
“That’s her mother talking” Chip off the ol’ block

Eph 5:1 – “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children.”

Jesus left a path for us to follow. We are to be imitators of Christ

Jesus said, “Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Col 1:10 describes how the Christian should live – “Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.”

What are we contributing with our lives?

    Footprints of Jesus, That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus, Where’er they go.

What are the footprints of Jesus?
Wherever Jesus walked – things were never them same again.

Last week we talked about how we need to “Give Our Faith a Picture”
Where will that picture come from?
Jesus showed us a clear picture of how we should live by the footprints He left for us.

What are the attributes we associate to the footprints of Jesus?

Wherever His sandals touched the paths of the earth, He blessed.

Wherever Jesus passed, He made people look beyond their hurts, their present suffering, their present mistakes…
He allowed them to see themselves through the eyes of GOD – through Christ’s perspective – and see their God-given potential.

To look up – to look ahead to God’s love, God’s grace – His mercy and redemption. To understand that GOD had the power to restore their broken lives.

? If people follow our trail, is that what they would find from us?

John 13:35: Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."

Wherever Jesus walked, people were relieved of their burdens.
    • The burden of guilt The burden of shame
The burden of sin The burden of sickness and pain

The shackles were broken and the captives were made free.

Wherever there was hunger… wherever there was lack - Jesus filled the need.

He left no one untouched that wanted to be blessed by Him.

    He leadeth me, He leadeth me, By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful foll’wer I would be, For by His hand He leadeth me.

What are the footprints of Jesus?
Wherever Jesus went – He made a difference

    * Jesus never allowed anyone to remain a victim

Jesus shows us the Love of the FATHER in such a way that we once again see through God’s eyes that we have value –
    - no matter what our current situation might be.
I heard a podcast with a famous minister whose life had been completely wrecked by his own mistakes:
“But I’m not living in the shame of that… That wouldn’t be the God that I serve…
It doesn’t mean that I ever forget about it…

Be careful that you don’t let people put you back into the shame that GOD has pulled you out (of)”

“We are not meant to stay wounded. We are supposed to move through our tragedies and challenges and help each other move through the painful episodes of our lives. By remaining stuck in the power of our wounds, we block our own transformation. We overlook the greater gifts inherent in our wounds – the strength to overcome them and the lessons we can receive through them.
These give us great power to in turn show compassion to others.”

Jesus never allowed anyone to remain a victim
 Not even Lazarus could remain a victim – and He was DEAD!!!

Jesus is ready to bring healing to your life’s journey so that you can go forward in faith and do the same for others.

All along the pathway Jesus walked, Jesus shows us the Love of the FATHER

God values people. God valued you enough to create you
He valued you enough to make you in His image
He valued you enough to say, “Before I created you I had plans for you.”

John Maxwell: “We value people because they are people.”
If we de-value people, we inhibit them from fully using their God-given gifts for the glory of God. (His purposes)

Jesus didn’t condemn. He loved, healed, restored and liberated.
He healed the sick, the blind, the lame – even delivered the possessed.

He didn’t tell the demoniac to go “live his own truth.”
He showed him HE was the Truth.

The first prerequisite of bringing change is awareness.
Jesus showed us how we should be living by His example

He gave us a vision of how our life, our behavior, should be.
Jesus: “If you live by what I say, you are truly my disciples.”
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”

What are the footprints of Jesus?
Jesus brought faith to the people. He delivered them out of their spiritual darkness.
Our wrong beliefs about God and His love for us limit what we ask for – and limit what we believe HE is willing to do for us.

All along the pathway Jesus walked, Jesus shows us the Love of the FATHER

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

Our old beliefs have held us back long enough. Allow yourself to be forgiven –
and allow the Love of Christ to break the chains so that you can forgive yourself.

"If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be? Oh, where would I be?"

( ) God’s Love will lift you out of your pit and bring you up to a high place where you can see with the eyes of faith today.

And after God has done this in your own life, you will be empowered and equipped to do the same for others.

It always starts with giving Jesus your heart.
We can’t be His disciples without first making the decision to follow Him.

We cannot DO the works of Jesus until we have been saved unto good works.
Titus 3: “…when God our savior’s kindness and love appeared, he saved us because of his mercy, not because of righteous things we had done. He did it through the washing of new birth and the renewing by the Holy Spirit, which God poured out upon us generously through Jesus Christ our savior. So, since we have been made righteous by his grace, we can inherit the hope for eternal life.”

    What then?
Eph 2:10: It is God who has worked in us to make us what we are. He has given us a new life because we are united with Christ Jesus. He saved us so that now we can do good things in our lives. Those are good things that he has already prepared for us to do.

Prov 3:6 – “Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
