DEBT
Matt
18:21-35
“YOU
may
be
eligible
for
relief”
People
amass
a
huge
debt
through
student
loans
or
credit
cards
and
then
one
day
wake
up
and
realize
that
they
have
dug
themselves
into
a
hole.
It
may
even
seem
hopeless
to
get
out
of
we
want
to
be
debt
free
How
would
it
feel
to
truly
be
debt
free?
We
want
to
be
debt
free.
but
it
is
not
just
about
money
Today
I
want
to
talk
about
debt
cancellation
in
our
spirit
and
in
our
souls
John
1:17:
For
the
law
was
given
through
Moses,
but
grace
and
truth
came
through
Jesus
Christ.
The
greatest
debt
cancellation
we
can
receive
is
the
forgiveness
of
our
sins
Col
2:14:
“having
canceled
out
the
certificate
of
debt
consisting
of
decrees
against
us,
which
was
hostile
to
us;
and
He
has
taken
it
out
of
the
way,
having
nailed
it
to
the
cross.”
“We
had
broken
the
Law
many
ways.
Those
sins
were
held
against
us
by
the
Law.
That
Law
had
writings
which
said
we
were
sinners.
But
now
He
has
destroyed
that
writing
by
nailing
it
to
the
cross.”
He
took
the
charges
away
by
nailing
them
to
the
cross.
“He
has
forgiven
you
all
your
sins:
Christ
has
utterly
wiped
out
the
damning
evidence
of
broken
laws
and
commandments
which
always
hung
over
our
heads,
and
has
completely
annulled
it
by
nailing
it
over
his
own
head
on
the
cross.
And
then
having
drawn
the
sting
of
all
the
powers
ranged
against
us,
he
exposed
them,
shattered,
empty
and
defeated,
in
his
final
glorious
triumphant
act!”
You
gotta
come
OUT
(of
fixed
thinking
and
unforgiveness)
You
gotta
walk
IN
(to
your
promised
land)
by
Grace
and
Truth
through
Jesus
Christ
Do
you
know
what
makes
Christianity
unique
and
gives
it
the
power
to
free
people
from
all
fears,
condemning
thoughts,
and
addictions?
Many
of
the
world’s
belief
systems
are
governed
by
moral
codes,
rules,
and
laws.
But
Christianity
is
unique
in
that
it
is
not
about
an
impersonal
list
of
dos
and
don’ts.
It
is
about
having
a
relationship
with
Almighty
God.
And
it
is
God
working
in
us
and
for
us
through
this
relationship
that
brings
transformation
in
our
lives.
Brothers
and
Sisters,
God
is
all
about
having
a
relationship
with
you
today.
John
1:17
tells
us
that
“the
law
was
given
through
Moses,
but
grace
and
truth
came
through
Jesus
Christ.”
Notice
also
that
the
law
was
given.
This
implies
a
sense
of
distance.
In
contrast,
grace
came!
Arrived!
Grace
is
personal
and
came
as a
person—the
person
of
Jesus
Christ.
The
law
is
hard,
cold,
and
impersonal.
You
cannot
have
a
relationship
with
two
tablets
of
stone.
Grace
is
not
a
teaching
or
doctrine.
Grace
is a
person,
(Jesus)
and
you
can
have
a
relationship
with
a
person.
Jesus
came
and
died
a
cruel
death
on
the
cross,
paying
the
full
debt
of
sin
with
His
own
life
so
that
you
and
I
can
reign
in
life
today.
His
sacrifice
fulfilled
every
requirement
of
the
law
perfectly
on
our
behalf
Matt.
5:17:
“Don’t
misunderstand
why
I
have
come.
I
did
not
come
to
abolish
the
law
of
Moses
or
the
writings
of
the
prophets.
No,
I
came
to
accomplish
their
purpose.”
All
that
we
were
unable
to
do,
He
did
on
our
behalf.
“He
paid
a
debt
He
did
not
owe
- I
owed
a
debt
I
could
not
pay”
When
you
receive
Jesus
Christ
as
your
Lord
and
Savior,
you
are
made
holy
and
righteous
by
His
blood
once
and
for
all.
You
can
enter
into
a
relationship
with
Almighty
God
and
come
boldly
into
His
presence
without
any
guilt,
condemnation,
or
expectation
of
punishment.
Christ
came
to
fulfill
the
law
You
see,
when
you
have
fulfilled
your
debt
to
the
lender
for
the
mortgage
on
your
house,
you
stop
sending
in
your
monthly
payments
because
the
debt
has
already
been
fulfilled.
(fulfilled)
Paid
In
Full.
If
the
lender
sends
you
a
letter
demanding
additional
payment,
all
you
have
to
do
is
produce
the
title
deed
to
your
home.
In
the
same
sense,
the
debt
that
you
and
I
owed
to
the
law
has
already
been
fulfilled
by
our
Savior,
Jesus
Christ!
Hallelujah!
When
the
devil
comes
to
accuse
you
with
the
law
and
shows
you
how
you
have
fallen
short
and
failed,
turn
your
eyes
away
from
yourself
and
point
to
the
payment
that
Jesus
made
on
the
cross.
Christ
is
your
title
deed,
which
is
why
you
are
called
a
“Christian”
today.
Jesus
Paid
It
All
You
are
not
your
own.
You
have
been
purchased
with
the
precious
blood
of
Jesus
Christ.
His
blood,
shed
for
you,
is
what
makes
your
relationship
with
God
secure.
It
is
what
gives
you
the
basis
to
reach
out
and
receive
your
freedom
from
your
loving
Savior
today!
You
now
have
–
through
Faith
in
God’s
Word
and
in
what
Jesus
did
for
you
–
(paying
the
debt
you
could
not
pay)
–
Divine
Debt
Cancellation.
Eph
1:13
–
“And
you
also
were
included
in
Christ
when
you
heard
the
message
of
truth,
the
gospel
of
your
salvation.
When
you
believed,
you
were
marked
in
him
with
a
seal,
the
promised
Holy
Spirit…”
So,
our
sin
debt
–
our
spiritual
debt
-
has
been
paid
in
full
What
about
the
debts
we
hold
in
our
souls
–
our
hearts
–
oyur
minds?
We
pray
in
the
Lord’s
Prayer:
Forgive
us
our
debts
as
we
forgive
our
debtors
All
people
owe
a
non-repayable
debt
to
the
Lord.
If
He
dismisses
our
debt,
then
we
should
extend
the
same
courtesy
to
any
of
our
debtors.
If
Jesus
forgives
us;
we
should
forgive
others.
Our
debt
is
forgiven
through
faith
in
Christ.
I
know
it
can
be
hard
to
do…
We
Need
God’s
Grace
to
SHOW
(other
people)
Grace
He’s
the
one
who
comforts
us
in
all
our
trouble
so
that
we
can
comfort
other
people
who
are
in
every
kind
of
trouble.
We
offer
the
same
comfort
that
we
ourselves
received
from
God.
What
could
be
more
“comfortable”
than
a
clean
slate?
A
fresh
start?
“Clean
Slate
for
the
entire
planet.”
“The
greatest
life
in
the
world
is
to
share
life.
That’s
what
life
is
all
about.”
Share
Life
–
Share
Grace
Have
we
really
forgiven
everyone
that
has
done
us
wrong
– or
are
we
only
giving
it
lip
service?
We
give
ourselves
away
with
our
words.
People
continue
to
bring
up
old
hurts
and
grudges
–
because
that
is
what
is
inside
of
them
still.
We
can’t
walk
in
freedom
unless
we
free
others
as
well.
Today
we
read
about
the
unmerciful
servant
He
received
the
blessing
of
total
debt
cancellation
..and
then
he
went
out
and
threw
someone
else
into
debtors
prison
for
a
small
debt
they
owed
him
Jesus
said:
“Blessed
are
them
merciful,
for
they
shall
obtain
mercy.”
(Matt
5:7)
Those
who
possess
and
demonstrate
a
disposition
to
kindness,
forgiveness,
and
compassion
are
those
who
will
receive
the
same.
How
can
we
not
show
the
same
grace
and
mercy
to
others
that
Jesus
has
shown
to
us?
Mark
11:25
(AMP)
Whenever
you
stand
praying,
if
you
have
anything
against
anyone,
forgive
him
[drop
the
issue,
let
it
go],
so
that
your
Father
who
is
in
heaven
will
also
forgive
you
your
transgressions
and
wrongdoings
[against
Him
and
others].
The
Word
says,
“Forgetting
those
things
which
are
behind..”
I
add:
“Forgiving
those
things
which
are
behind…”
Another
version
(we
use)
of
the
Lord’s
Prayer
says,
“Forgive
us
our
trespasses”
Trespasses
–
somebody
walking
where
they
don’t
belong
Gossip.
Meddling.Backstabbing.
Sometimes
this
can
be
even
harder
to
forgive.
If
we
want
a
new
day
for
ourselves
we
must
give
it
to
others.
Unforgiveness
–
bitterness
–
anger
These
eat
us
up
inside
and
rob
us
of
our
health
and
our
joy
in
living
life
When
we’re
weak,
He
is
strong
We
offer
the
same
comfort
that
we
ourselves
received
from
God.
Psalm
139:23,24:
Search
me,
O
God,
and
know
my
heart;
test
me
and
know
my
anxious
thoughts.
Point
out
anything
in
me
that
offends
you,
and
lead
me
along
the
path
of
everlasting
life.
“Dear
Lord,
I
ask
You
for
the
grace
to
show
grace
to
others”
How
would
it
feel
to
truly
be
debt
free?
