Psalms 63:1-2; "O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary."

2 John 3: Grace, mercy, and peace belong to us, flowing from the presence of God the Father and from Jesus Christ, Son of the Father and from the realm of true love.

    Contemplation 2024
    Matthew 6:5-13

Ignatius House is a wonderful retreat center. Most of the time you are not allowed to speak to anyone. It is primarily a place of silent retreat and prayer.
The rooms are simple – cinderblock walls. A bed. A little desk.
    …and no TV. ;)

    Silence is a privilege

I’ve spent a lot of my weekend in prayer – and didn’t speak too many words.

Prayer is a conversation with GOD – and it should be a two-way street
…we don’t always take time to listen.

We all need times of retreat – time in silence.
There are many ways we can make that happen, even without going out of town

Luke 5:16 - Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

Matt 14:23 - After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

In the busyness of daily life, it is tough to receive new revelation – much less even think clearly.

Our 21st century culture is built around sound bites designed to work with the attention-deficit mindset we have developed through constant input and mutli-tasked living.
It takes effort to quiet your mind and seek God.

Even in our busy lives, we can go back to source and find peace and truth…

2 John 1:2 - because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.

Jesus: But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Ecc - A time to be silent and a time to speak.
Thomas Keating: “Silence is God's first language; everything else is a poor translation.”
God spoke to Elijah in the silence.

“A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before GOD, but GOD wasn't to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but GOD wasn't in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but GOD wasn't in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.

When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, "So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?"

Psalm 65:1 - God of Zion, to you even silence is praise.

    dumyah – Hebrew – silence – or “soul’s stillness”

Psalm 62:2: Only for God doth my soul wait in stillness; from Him cometh my salvation.

You can be silent – and still be diligent in prayer…

Psalm 37:7 - Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act.

    “Be still and know…”
To be still translates literally in the Hebrew to “Let go of your grip.”

The natural (carnal) attitude is to hold on to everything – tightly – and keep it under our control.
Let go of your grip. Be still.
If there are questions you need an answer to today, you have to let go of your grip…

…Because you may be gripping on to old answers that never solved the problem to begin with.

As born-again believers, we have the Holy Spirit within us. God put a new Spirit within us
1 John 4:13 “We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.”

Our intellect must reach down to our soul, as our Spirit reaches up to meet – in our heart (our soul.)

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
(out of it flow the issues of life)

We seek the Lord with our hearts… not our heads.
“When you seek Me, you will find Me – when you seek Me with your whole heart.”

David said, “My soul followeth hard after thee”

Psalms 63:1-2; "O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary."

Jesus said: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6)

In the secret, in the quiet place
In the stillness, You are there
In the secret, in the quiet hour I wait Only for You
'Cause I want to know You more.

In the stillness, You are there.

How can God speak to us if we will not listen?

What we are trying to do, only God can do. ( )

Getting into GOD’s Presence is where real change occurs.

“In HIM we live and move and have our being”

I am convinced that it is GOD’s Love that transforms us. It is the experience of GOD’s Love that takes us from knowing about to real “knowing.”

In our quite times with GOD, we can experience HIS Love as we open our hearts to HIM.

You have to come to God as a child.
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.” – Jesus

Be still and know that He is God.
Will you listen to God today? Or will you allow the world to drown Him out?
He is there waiting for you to listen.

    Will you listen today?

“Time alone with GOD is enough.”

“The grace of contemplation is granted only in response to a longing and insistent desire.”

Draw near to God – and he will draw near to you.

“I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of God.”

Rest: Ask Nothing. Simply Rest in the Presence of the Lord
and experience guidance through His Word.

2 John 3: Grace, mercy, and peace belong to us, flowing from the presence of God the Father and from Jesus Christ, Son of the Father and from the realm of true love.
