2 Cor 3:17: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Gal 5:1 - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The Freedom Factor
2 Cor 3:17

Years ago I watched an amazing movie called “Invictus”
– based on a true story - Following the fall of apartheid, newly elected President Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) faces a South Africa that is racially and economically divided. Believing he can unite his countrymen through the universal language of sport, Mandela joins forces the captain of the rugby team, (played by Matt Damon), to rally South Africans behind a bid for the 1995 World Cup Championship.
Nelson Mandela was president of South Africa from 1994 – 1999.
Prior to that, he was in prison from 1962 – 1990 because of his stance against apartheid.
“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison.”
If you study how he led the nation during his presidency, you will see that he lived up to that commitment. His way of governing included all the people of South Africa – including those who had help him in prison for all those many years.
You can be held in a prison of your own making through anger, hatred, bitterness or unforgiveness.
Even if all those emotions are only directed toward yourself.
You and I cannot be free to live the lives we were meant to live, we cannot become the people we were meant to be, if we continue to stay chained to the past hurts.

True Freedom means you are free to think… to feel… to Become YOU.

Philippians 2:13 “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”
Last Week:
Awareness: Be in This Moment
Appreciation: Think of how you have already been blessed
Gratitude: Thank God and embrace this New Day
To form new habits, you will have to upgrade your desires.
To change your desires – you will have to change your beliefs.
See – you can really want to change – but in order to have the burning desire to do the things necessary to change
– you will have to believe it is possible to change.
Without this basic belief, you will never consistently take the steps – make the choices – take the chances – necessary to achieve positive change.
“All things are possible if a person believes.”
Today we will focus on the concept of FREEDOM
(freedom is the opposite of bondage)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
What does freedom mean to you? How does it feel to be free? ( )
True Freedom means you are free to think… to feel… …to Become YOU.
Listen to me…
Beneath the scars… beneath the hurts…The Real YOU is still there
Your heart is not really broken – it is only calloused.
Your old life is not supposed to still be hanging around.
Col 3:3 - For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
Identity in Christ begins with recognizing that “old things are passed away…”
Eph 5:25,26 – “ … Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's Word.”
John 15:3 - You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
Joseph Prince: “The more you sit under anointed teaching that lifts you up and washes you, the more fruit you’ll bear.”

The potential of possessing the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16) introduces the scandal of today’s church—pastors who do not think Christianly, leaving their minds undisciplined. The apostle Paul understood this well: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Phil. 4:8).
You can never have a Christian mind without reading the Scriptures regularly, for you cannot be influenced by that which you do not know.
Let GOD’s Word sanctify you today… cleanse your heart…and restore your soul ( )
Let it bring you to a new place in your walk with Christ.
on the road to Emmaus…
They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”
Why should we be so amazed that it is Christ in us that has the power to restore our lives – to free us from our own prisons?
Let GOD’s Word bring you to a new place in your walk with Christ.

“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison.”

Old things are passed away
A free person no longer identifies with being a prisoner.

True Freedom means you are free to think… to feel… …to Become YOU.

It may seem difficult to do – but there are just some things you are going to have to let go of – to release – to forgive

In Jr High she read the book, The Art of Discarding
“Why on earth did I bother keeping all this stuff?”
In her book, she says, the ultimate secret is this: “If you tidy up in one shot, rather than little-by-little, you can dramatically change your mind-set.”
Doesn’t that make sense for us?
“As a man thinketh…”
We need a freedom mindset
"The human heart is never changed through laws. It is changed through grace."
Let’s ask GOD for the grace to help us walk out of our own prison cells and leave all the hurt, anger and bitterness behind us.
? Do you believe it’s possible? “Only Believe”
“All things are possible if you can believe.”
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Feel the bondage of your own prison now – once last time - and recognize that you don’t want to live here any longer.
What does it feel like to you?
What has held you back from being who you were really mean to be?
Psalm 118:5 - In tight circumstances, I cried out to the LORD. The LORD answered me with wide-open spaces.
The tight spaces of our old prison cells cannot hold us any longer.
“All that you can’t leave behind”
We have to stop identifying with our former prison cell. We have to walk away and leave it behind.
Acts 13:38,39 - “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through Him (Jesus) everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.”
“Through Him (Jesus) everyone who believes is set free…”
It’s God’s Grace – made possible through Jesus Christ – that has the Power to Release us today.
Eph 3:12 - “In Him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”
