Perfection 101
Psalm 138:8


“Take Your Wounds and make Them Wisdom”

“Nobody’s Perfect” - Yeah – but everyone else seems much closer

“The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”

And that’s the truth: We often don’t get to see the reality behind the veneer of a carefully curated Instagram or a polished personal brand. If we did, we might not feel so jealous or inferior.

“Wow – you must do a lot of Photoshop work.”

It is downright impossible to compete and compare your real life with other people’s highlights.

Maybe we acknowledge this as true… but then we read this scripture:

Matt 5:48 (Jesus) “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Wait – whaaaaaat????

Even if I only look at the “highlights” I know I still fall way short of “perfection.” Way.

Romans 3:23 – “ …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”

We are poised to do great things for God - Individually and collectively
Maybe God put something special in your heart to do?

Are we qualified? Are we equipped? Are we ready to do what God sends us to do?

The crowds asked Jesus: “So what should we do if we want to do God’s work?” Jesus answered, “The work you can do for God starts with believing in the One he has sent.” (John 6:28,29)

Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Breaking it down…
1. Who will perfect us?
2. How long will God be merciful to us as we are “perfected?”
3. Will God give up on us?

Perfecting – indicates it is a gradual process. Not a one-time act.
A minister in South Africa prayed this prayer over himself as he sought healing in his body: “The Perfection of God is now being expressed through me.”

Jesus taught: (Matt 9:29) "According to your faith let it be done to you"
Passion translation: “You will have what your faith expects!”

So – what are you believing? Can you embrace (by faith) this biblical teaching?

“The LORD will perfect that which concerns me”

If, as the scripture says (Phil 1:6) “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns,” - then we can, in faith, decree -

“The Perfection of God is now being expressed through me.”
This is “the power that worketh in us” as described in Eph 3:20.

2 Sam 22:33 - God is my strength and power: and He maketh my way perfect.

The Lord perfects us through different ways:
One way is through His Holy Word
(early morning scriptures on TV)
Psalm 19:7: The instruction of the LORD is perfect, renewing one’s life
“Your Word is working mightily in me.”

Sanctification
“the washing of the water by the Word” (Eph 5:26)

Some of that is happening right NOW as you are hearing and accepting God’s Word into your heart

Faith for transformation comes through hearing God’s Word – both in our own reading and study, as well as hearing it from others God puts in our lives.

Eph 4:11,12: “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…”

Dr. Maxwell Maltz - "Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs."

Do you believe these scriptures you have heard today are true? True for YOU?

Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
1. Who will perfect us?
2. How long will God be merciful to us as we are “perfected?”
“Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever…”

Lamentations 3:22,23 - Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Luke 1:78 - A new day will dawn on us from above because our God is loving and merciful.

No matter where you are on your journey today:
God hasn’t let you go
We can Rest in His Grace - Rest in His Mercy
He has you in the palm of His hand

Surrender your control - Let God do the perfecting in you
Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
1. Who will perfect us?
2. How long will God be merciful to us as we are “perfected?”
3. Will God give up on us?
Phil 1:6 - I pray with great faith for you, because I’m fully convinced that the One who began this glorious work in you will faithfully continue the process of maturing you and will put his finishing touches to it until the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Can you call upon God for your help today?

Romans 10:13 - “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”

Jeremiah 33:3 - Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

Psalm 138:3 - When I called out to you, you answered me.
You made me strong and brave.

No matter where you are on your journey today:
God hasn’t let you go
We can Rest in His Grace - Rest in His Mercy
He has you in the palm of His hand Surrender your control

Psalm 138:8 - The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith

Colossians 1:22: Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

The Lord will fulfill His Purpose for me.

1 Peter 2:9 : But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
