PEACE 和平
Psalm 40:1-3: I waited and waited and waited some more,
patiently, knowing God would come through for me. Then, at last, he bent down and listened to my cry. He stooped down to lift me out of danger
from the desolate pit I was in, out of the muddy mess I had fallen into. Now he’s lifted me up into a firm, secure place and steadied me while I walk along his ascending path. A new song for a new day rises up in me every time I think about how he breaks through for me! Ecstatic praise pours out of my mouth until everyone hears how God has set me free. Many will see his miracles;
they’ll stand in awe of God and fall in love with him!
Col 1:19-23: For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[g] your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
(page 1909)

Advent
II
2024
Psalm
40:1-3
“Step
into
this
moment,
because
it
is
the
only
one
you
have
right
now.”
Advent
is a
perfect
time
to
see
with
new
eyes
–
and
think
new
and
better
thoughts
Phil
2:5
–
“Let
this
mind
be
in
you,
which
was
also
in
Christ
Jesus:”
A
renewed
mind
can
reshape
the
rest
of
your
life.
Ask
yourself:
“If
I
didn’t
need
someone
to
rescue
me,
why
would
God
have
sent
a
savior?”
If
we
could
work
it
out…
If
we
could
figure
it
out…
We
wouldn’t
need
someone
to
rescue
us
from
ourselves
Colossians
1
tells
us
God
“
…made
peace
with
everything
in
heaven
and
on
earth
by
means
of
Christ’s
blood
on
the
cross.”
It
goes
on
to
say…
“This
includes
you
who
were
once
far
away
from
God.
You
were
his
enemies,
separated
from
him
by
your
evil
thoughts
and
actions.
Yet
now
he
has
reconciled
you
to
himself
through
the
death
of
Christ
in
his
physical
body.
As a
result,
he
has
brought
you
into
his
own
presence,
and
you
are
holy
and
blameless
as
you
stand
before
him
without
a
single
fault.”
NLV:
Christ’s
blood
has
made
peace.
“Never
judge
your
standing
by
your
state.”
God
sent
us a
Savior
because
we
needed
to
be
saved.
Advent
Week
One
was
about
Hope.
Jesus
is
our
Hope.
Once
we
understand
what
we
learned
last
week,
we
must
go
from
Hope
to
an
acceptance
that
what
God
has
promised
to
us,
He
will
fulfill.
We
must
embrace
His
promises
and
then
find
rest.
We
enter
into
His
Peace.
I
put
all
my
hope
in
the
LORD.
He
leaned
down
to
me;
He
listened
to
my
cry
for
help.
He
lifted
me
out
of
the
pit
of
death,
out
of
the
mud
and
filth,
and
set
my
feet
on
solid
rock.
He
steadied
my
legs.
He
put
a
new
song
in
my
mouth,
a
song
of
praise
for
our
God.
Many
people
will
learn
of
this
and
be
amazed;
they
will
trust
the
LORD.
Jesus
said:
These
things
I
have
spoken
unto
you,
that
in
me
ye
might
have
peace.
The
same
words
that
are
creating
peace
in
you
today
will
continue
to
work
in
you.
His
words
are
to
have
life-giving,
peace-sustaining
power
in
our
lives.
What
is
creating
peace
in
you
will
preserve
peace
in
you.
In
the
second
week
of
Advent,
we
take
time
to
reflect
on
God’s
peace
that
He
supplies
to
us
without
end
in
Jesus.
While
it
is
true
that
Jesus
came
to
put
an
end
to
sin
and
its
penalty
once
and
for
all,
His
coming
into
the
world
has
accomplished
even
so
much
more
than
that!
Jesus’
coming
has
given
us
peace
with
God
that
cannot
be
undone.
And
God
has
purposed
from
the
beginning
to
restore
us
to
Himself
by
His
own
plan
and
power.
The
prophecies
of
the
Old
Testament,
fulfilled
in
Christ’s
coming,
give
us
confidence
and
peace
that
God
is
who
He
says
He
is
and
that
God
does
what
he
says
He
will
do.
John
1:12:
But
to
all
who
did
receive
him,
who
believed
in
his
name,
he
gave
the
right
to
become
children
of
God,
…And
for
those
of
us
who
are
in
Christ,
we
have
great
peace
because
we
not
only
have
the
peace
of
God
with
us
right
now,
we
also
have
the
peace
that
comes
from
knowing
that
nothing
at
all,
not
even
death,
can
separate
us
from
the
love
of
God
that
is
our
in
Christ
Jesus
our
Lord.
We
have
to
learn
to
Rest
in
Peace.
We
need
to
ask
in
Faith
–
and
learn
to
trust
and
believe.
Accepting
and
waiting
means
we
are
in
faith.
Being
impatient
means
we
are
still
in
fear.
Living
in
God’s
Peace
means
we
have
learned
to
rest
in
God’s
promises.
Heb
4:3
- We
who
have
faith
are
entering
the
rest.
Isn’t
that
what
faith
is
all
about?
Faith
comes
first.
(repeat)
We
ask
in
faith,
believing
–
and
then
we
trust.
“I
waited
patiently
for
the
LORD;
He
turned
to
me
and
heard
my
cry.”
We’ve
tried
to
do
it
ourselves,
and
we’ve
failed.
Heb
4:11
-
There
remains,
then,
a
Sabbath-rest
for
the
people
of
God;
for
anyone
who
enters
God’s
rest
also
rests
from
their
works,
just
as
God
did
from
His.
We
can’t
possibly
live
in a
state
of
Peace
without
learning
to
wait
and
trust.
Because
Faith
is
the
substance
of
things
hoped
for…
and
if
we
look
too
hard
we
can
find
things
that
just
aren’t
quite
“perfect”
yet.
;)
Where
does
this
Peace
come
from?
Emmanuel.
God
with
us.
On
March
2nd,
1791,
John
Wesley
opened
his
eyes
and
exclaimed
for
the
very
last
time,
upon
his
deathbed,
these
words:
’The
best
of
all
is
this:
God
is
with
us’.
Eph
3:20
-
Now
all
glory
to
God,
who
is
able,
through
his
mighty
power
at
work
within
us,
to
accomplish
infinitely
more
than
we
might
ask
or
think.
It’s
not
about
us –
or
our
power
to
handle
everything
on
our
own.
It
is
Emmanuel.
“
…through
His
mighty
power
at
work
within
us”
U2:
“Sometimes
you
can’t
make
it
on
your
own.”
You
need
God’s
power.
“You’ll
get
through
this…
not
because
YOU
are
strong,
but
because
GOD
IS.”
God
is
there
for
you
in
your
storm.
Christ
in
YOU.
( )
Be
Still
and
Know.
( )
His
Presence
is
not
just
in
here
(sanctuary)
-
but
if
you
are
a
Child
of
God,
His
Presence
is
here
(inside)
God
sent
us a
savior
because
He
knew
we
needed
to
be
saved.
He
sent
us
Emmanuel.
Jesus
came
to
save
His
people,
didn’t
He?
A
God
who
cares
for
you.
A
God
who
understands
you.
A
God
who
loves
you.
A
God
who
is
with
you.
A
God
who
forgives
you.
A
God
who
gives
you
the
free
gift
of
salvation.
A
God
who
has
saved
you.
Whatever
storms
you’re
going
through,
listen:
God
is
with
us!
“I
waited
patiently
for
the
LORD;
He
turned
to
me
and
heard
my
cry.”
A
new
song
for
a
new
day
rises
up
in
me
every
time
I
think
about
how
he
breaks
through
for
me!
Ecstatic
praise
pours
out
of
my
mouth
until
everyone
hears
how
God
has
set
me
free.
Many
will
see
His
miracles;
they’ll
stand
in
awe
of
God
and
fall
in
love
with
Him!
“Lord,
make
me
an
instrument
of
Thy
Peace”
