Have you ever tried to talk to someone and they say “I know” as soon as you start talking? …or worse yet, they start filling in the… blanks? Finishing your… sentences? It was once said: “Knowing it all is nothing but an illusion of knowledge.” The impulse to tell ourselves that we already know something is a conditioned response. The “know-it-all” is programmed to believe that way – and they don’t even know it. Here’s a super-big challenge for us today: First of all, can you admit that maybe there is something in your life that is not quite “perfect” just yet? It makes sense – because if you already “know” everything, where is the HOPE of learning more – ? - or things getting better for you? Welcome to Lent 2025. Are we willing to give up what we “know” for what God is trying to reveal to us? The most used scripture for the start of the Lenten season is from the book of Joel: That is why the LORD says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. 13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. (Joel 2:12,13) I started pastoral ministry with very little traditional Methodist background. My two Methodist pastors were both very non-traditional. And they were both two of the strongest voices in my life as mentors and as Godly men who lived by example. We learn – and we grow. Our understanding expands as we allow ourselves to become teachable. Horace said, “Men cease to think when they think they know it all.” We build our faith on a foundation of scripture and tradition, so we have to make sure we are always building it on truth. There are many well-meaning but misguided people who would minimize what GOD is able to do in your life today – - despite what is happening all over the planet - - and it is all because they have been taught wrong. You cannot have faith for something that you don’t believe is the will of GOD. Right Believing will produce Right Results. A limited Gospel is a powerless message that will not change this world. My trip to Wales My one desire for that trip was to visit where the Welsh Revival bagn. Historically, the revolutionary prayers of Evan Roberts and a small group of praying people changed an entire nation. Had they not had the faith to believe that “all things are indeed possible to those who can believe” – what would have happened? Would there have been a Welsh revival? Would thousands have been saved and multitudes of lives transformed? Evan Roberts: “The Power of the revival in South Wales is not of men, but all of God. He has been close to us and has shown us the way. … I have merely preached the religion of Jesus Christ as I myself have experienced it. God has “made me glad,” and I am showing others the great joy of serving Him, a joy so great and so wonderful that I shall never be able to express it in its completeness. We are teaching no sectarian doctrine, only the wonder and the beauty of Christ’s love, the love of man for Him, and the love of man for man. I have been asked concerning my methods. I have none. I never prepare the words I shall speak. I leave all that to Him. I am not the source of this revival. I am only one agent in what is growing to be a multitude. I am not moving men’s hearts and changing men’s lives; not I, but “God worketh in me.” I have found what is, in my belief, the highest kind of Christianity. I desire to give my life, which is all I have to give, to helping others to find it also. Many have already found it, thank God, and many more are finding it through them.” The Prophet Joel: ‘In the last days,’ God says,‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants — men and women alike — and they will prophesy. People all over the world are praying for and expecting a new “Great Awakening” like we read about in times past. An awakening where men and women’s hearts are once more turned to the Lord in repentance and submission to GODs Word. When their eyes are opened to the truth and are no longer blinded by the lies of the world – the media – the carnal globalists who want to strip you of your uncompromised faith. We know that revival – the Great Awakening – starts with the believers. 2 Chron 7:14: “ …if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Jung's idea is that we don't see God because we don't look low enough. We have to humble ourselves and pray and seek GOD’s face and turn from our wicked ways. …Just like they did in England… in Germany – in Wales – with the early settlers in America - and anywhere that GOD moved and changed the landscape with the truth of the Gospel. We must take the limits off of what GOD can do by building our foundation of faith on the truth of GODs Word and no longer believing for anything less than true Holy Ghost revival in our lives – in our churches – and in our communities. 2 Tim 1:6 reminds us to “stir up the gifts that are inside of us.” ? Is your heart cold and un-stirrable today – or can it yet again be touched by Holy Spirit’s still small voice today? Heb 3:11: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion." “Nothing in your life can ever really change if you’re way of thinking remains the same.” If you’re ready to change today – you will have to learn to look forward again. You will have to be open to hearing a New Word from GOD today. One word from God today can change your life forever. You either take what has been dealt to you (or even the mess you’ve created all by yourself) and allow it to make you a better person, or you just allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to ‘fate.’ It belongs to YOU. …and me. How’s that for a challenging intro? “When I leave this earth, I want to leave a legacy that my family will be proud of.” Do you ever think about that? legacy: the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life. We all start somewhere – and we will all end up somewhere. What we do in-between will determine our legacy. Truth: For the most part, we are forgotten by most folks shortly after we shed this mortal coil. But not if we leave our message in someone’s heart. When your legacy is written on the hearts of those your life has touched, the impact can go on for generations to come. Our earthy assignment always involves service to other people. One of the greatest gifts we can give others is to listen, to support, and to encourage. To show people that their lives matter, and that they, too, have a purpose, a legacy to fulfill. Maybe you don’t feel qualified to be that person. “If you’re feeling help-less, one KEY is to become more help-ful.” What if I told you that there are people in your life right now that are looking to you to be the One? The One who takes the family – the business – the culture – to a higher level. The one who breaks free from the gravitational pull of what some might call “generational curses.” It will take extra effort to push against the comfort zone. To think higher thoughts. To defy the odds. To rise up and rise above and leave behind the constraints of what once was. Remember in Back to the Future, the school principle got in Marty McFly’s (Michael J. Fox) face and said, “Why even bother, McFly? You haven't got a chance. You're too much like your old man. No McFly ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley.” Ok – so that reference is just from a movie What about the movie Hillbilly Elegy? A movie almost too painful to sit through, and yet, the story is about a young man’s struggle to overcome a severely dysfunctional family and continue to fight to get through school, go to college and then to law school. That man is JD Vance. He is now our Vice President. Vance's Hillbilly Elegy became a national bestseller for its raw, emotional portrait of growing up in and eventually out of a poor rural community riddled by drug addiction and instability." Vance's account anecdotally confirmed the report's conclusion that family stability is essential to upward mobility. When people are brought low and you say, ‘Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast. What will our legacy be? You either become miserable or you become better. It's that simple. You either accept what you are given and make it better for you, or you let it break you. The choice is yours. It belongs to you. Someone may be hoping that One will be YOU. You were called for more – but it won’t happen by accident: • Faith (if you can believe) • Intention (have you set your intention to serve the Lord through your talents?) • Association (Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise) “This is what I was born to do” If you think God is not deeply concerned about you developing your talents and gifts – - of you becoming more than you have been – then you are not familiar with the stern warning Jesus makes through the Parable of the Talents. It’s not just a nice story. ? How serious does God take the intentional development of our talents – our gifts? The Parable of the Talents is a Bible story from Matthew 25:14–30 that tells of a master who entrusts his property to his servants. The parable is about responding to the Gospel with faith and using one's talents to do good. Jesus gives these earthly stories to express heavenly truths. Much of Jesus’ teachings came through parables. I love the Parable of the Talents. In this story a master who went away and gave three servants different talents according to their ability. The master expected those servants to do something with those things they have been entrusted with. Jesus has left us with talents and abilities that he expects us to do something with. ? How did the Master respond to the one who did not use those talents? GOD expects us to use our gifts to: 1) Multiply the Kingdom 2) Edify our brothers and Sisters 3) Grow Individually One great thing about our Savior is that He has not left us here on Earth helpless. Jesus did not leave us with the Great Commission helpless to carry it out. He has given us talents, he has given us gifts that we can use to accomplish the task we have been commanded to do. Someone is counting on YOU. Are YOU “The ONE?” “We Lift by Love” ? Maybe you have tried to step up to a new level? You tried to set a new standard for you and your loved ones, but opposition you had never faced before came out of nowhere. There are forces of darkness that don’t want you to take new ground. Follow the commands of Jesus: Love the Lord your GOD Love your neighbor as yourself “We Lift by Love” Everything hinges on this. Out of this intentionality will arise the Kingdom gifts God has placed inside of us. Job 22:29: When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, ‘There is lifting up!’ And He shall save the humble person. When people are brought low and you say, ‘Lift them up!’ then he will save the downcast. AVOID the “Ministry of Condemnation” – both in the receiving and the delivering. (don’t let anyone do it – and don’t do it to yourself) We lift by love – we point others to the cross Spurgeon: God first gives us Grace and then rewards us for it! He works in us and then counts the fruit as our work. We work out our own salvation, because “He works in us to will and to do of His own good pleasure.” We are to go out and do the works God has called us to do, not based on our merit or level of perfection, but because of the Greater One Who lives and moves in us. We are branches. Matthew 7:11, Jesus tells us God gives good gifts to His children. Good Things. What are we waiting for? Do we really have an endless supply of time? Eph 5:16: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. “Make your life a mission – not an intermission.” Your service to God is the fruit of your life based on His Grace Psalm 63:8 - With passion I pursue and cling to you. I'm still I was still $200,000 in debt. I got tired of living a life trying to put on a mask or pretend to be what everybody else thought I should be. the words of a song called “living a lie” came on his radio and he woke up to where his life really was.” “ I couldn't get it out of my head. I went on Facebook and said, “you think you know me. You have no idea right now I'm $200,000 in debt I'm living in my car I've hurt everyone in my life. I have no relationship with my family. What I am going to tell you today is that by living your God-given purpose, you can discover a life of peace. Peace Through Purpose “Don’t become a wandering generality. Be a meaningful specific.” ― Zig Ziglar We are to be bright lights – living epistles – testimonies of God’s grace and Mercy. (Jesus) “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” What is Jesus’ peace like? (Jesus led His disciples by example) Jesus Calms a Storm Matt 8:23-27: They all got into a boat and began to cross over to the other side of the lake. And Jesus, exhausted, fell asleep. Suddenly a violent storm developed, with waves so high the boat was about to be swamped. Yet Jesus continued to sleep soundly. The disciples woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We’re going to die!” But Jesus reprimanded them. “Why are you gripped with fear? Where is your faith?” Then he stood and rebuked the storm, saying, “Be still!” And instantly it became perfectly calm. Jesus said, “I’m leaving you peace. I’m giving you my peace. I don’t give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don’t be troubled or cowardly.” ? Do you believe what Jesus says is true. True for YOU? Col 3:15: …let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. As we discussed before - We all have a higher purpose than we have walked in so far… even if we are striving to attain it now. …and we need our lives made whole so we have something more to give others. What is Your Purpose? What is anyone’s purpose? Your Purpose is to be a vessel God can use for His glory. Ephesians 5:16: Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for his purposes. We continue to live in Peace as we live to fulfill God’s Purpose for our lives. Jesus: I will go away but I will give you a gift of peace. It is mine to give and yours to keep. It is not like a gift that this world gives. My cry to the Lord is that we could begin to walk in a new level of health and wholeness, mind, body and spirit. - That we as a church would lead as examples of New Covenant Believers. Part of that should be how we demonstrate that “peace that passeth all understanding” "Peace that passeth all understanding" refers to a peace that transcends human understanding and cannot be fully comprehended. This peace is a harmony and calmness of body, mind, and spirit that's not dependent on circumstances. • It's a peace that's promised to those who pray with thanksgiving. • It's a peace that's distinct from what the world offers. • It's a peace that's found in a relationship with Christ. • It's a peace that's a result of divine intervention rather than human effort. In Philippians 4:7 we have a wonderful promise: “The peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Prov 14:30: “A heart at peace gives life to the body…” When we are living our Divine Purpose, we can have a heart at peace because we know whatever the situation, God will use it all for good – and for His glory. Living on purpose, from purpose, becomes a daily practice. Phil 2:13: God will continually revitalize you, implanting within you the passion to do what pleases him. Trusting in God – believing His promises are true – brings our heart to a resting place. “A heart at peace gives life to the body…” When you’re in the midst of the storm, it’s hard to hear the Master’s voice unless you listen for it. He speaks to your heart today and says, “Peace Be Still.” Isaiah 30:15: In repentance and rest you will be saved; in staying calm and trusting will be your strength. staying calm and trusting Sometimes we can feel peaceful until something rocks the boat. The peace Jesus gives to us transcends this very natural reaction and causes us to respond in peace. (Gal 5 - Peace is the fruit of the Spirit) “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” The Power of God’s Word to shape our lives is demonstrated from the beginning of the Bible until the very end. (“I delight to do Your Will…) So you see – we can receive this peace by faith because of Jesus’ words. God calls you to live from a higher place, where His rule brings peace and purpose. He calls us all to repentance today. Repentance isn’t just turning from sin—it’s returning to God’s original design for you. As you renew your mind, you step back into the life He intended. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Prayer Father, help me change my thinking and return to the life You designed for me. Rule over my heart, my mind, and my steps. It is good to believe strongly – and it is good to take a stand ? But what if what we believe is true is not really true at all? What if it is a total lie – a deception? “The brainwashed don’t know they are brainwashed.” There’s an old song that says, “’tain’t necessarily so.” You’ve heard me say many times, “You are not your thoughts” Your mind can be lying to you. “If you had friends in your life that talk to you the way your mind does, they wouldn’t be your friends very long.” We may sometimes argue in support of our limitations – our misery – our seemingly hopeless situations. We defend our weaknesses. Our shattered lives. Some people will argue for their right to continue to try to save themselves. In our shattered situations, we need to look to our Creator for help. MSG: “I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered.“ The healing we need in our lives requires us to return to the Healer. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!” Imperturbability is a noun that means the quality of being calm, unruffled, and not easily disturbed. It can also refer to the ability to remain calm and composed in the face of a difficult situation. “none of these things move me” “Every challenge you encounter in life is a fork in the road. You have the choice to choose which way to go – backward, forward, breakdown or breakthrough.” Walking by Faith means we respond to life’s challenges in a way that is in-line with our true beliefs “Let not your hearts be troubled” “none of these things move me” “I am not moved by what I see” 2 Cor 5:7: "For we walk by faith, not by sight". This verse means that people should live by what they believe, not by what they see. Imperturbability – persistent faith Trust that God will provide everything needed to fulfill our purpose a glorious future awaits those who believe that all things can be endured through the help of Jesus Christ. on familiar but long (boring) trips, I play a game in my mind as I drive on… Markers on the path Whether it’s a marathon (or 5K on my part) or a long trip, sometimes it is helpful to recognize landmarks of some kind to gauge our progress. To not look at the whole journey, but that moment. You perceive how God sees you in the mirror of the Word, but then you go out and forget your divine origin. But those who set their gaze deeply into the perfecting law of liberty are fascinated by and respond to the truth they hear and are strengthened by it—they experience God’s blessing in all that they do! We are being transformed if we are intentionally seeking to keep going and keep growing We don’t look back – we are pressing on Imperturbability – persistent faith We continue in the faith Colossians 1:23: if indeed you continue to advance in faith, assured of a firm foundation to grow upon. Never be shaken from the hope of the gospel you have believed in. We know the old things must pass away, so we are not moved when we see some things crumble away as the false self leaves us and we pursue sanctification Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, then falsely accused of a crime and put in prison. At some point you would think that Joseph would be so discouraged that he would give up on the dream God gave him, but he kept doing the right thing. He so excelled in prison that he was put in charge. Joseph interpreted a dream for a fellow prisoner when he could have said, “Go away. I have bigger problems than you.” Being unselfish led to his interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, which led to becoming the prime minister of Egypt. The dream came to pass through years of testing. Genesis 50:20: As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people[a] should be kept alive, as they are today. How we go through our difficult seasons will determine whether we get stuck there or whether we come out better. What God is doing may not always make sense in the moment, but most of us clearly can relate to hindsight being 20/20 It all makes sense later (“if this hadn’t happened, then…”) The temporary uneasiness is making way for something better. It is both good and necessary. Old beliefs and opinions may have to come tumbling down as we empty our cup and allow ourselves to hear the word and receive it in new wineskins Now, in the cleared space we can experience the new man being formed in us Sometimes we have to just live out the old saying “One Day at a Time” • “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Renewing your mind is like reprogramming a computer. The shocking things that have now been uncovered - revealed – in the past two weeks require that the whole world to make some reassessments. The world may have been feeding us lies, fear, and negativity. We need God’s Word to clear out the junk and installs His truth. When you meditate on Scripture, you’re not just reading words—you’re planting seeds that grow into a mindset aligned with God’s will. And here’s the kicker: a renewed mind doesn’t just think differently, it allows you to live differently and receive new results. It’s the gateway to walking in the abundant life God has for you. A renewed mind will also allow us to just enjoy God’s blessing in our lives without anxiety about something going wrong. Imperturbability Maybe it simply means the Ability to NOT Be Perturbed If you can accept the mission of being transformed by the renewing of you minds, you will also have to accept that things will be different. Changes are going to occur. You are not to be a static pond, but a running river Can you deal with that reality?? (I mean, really?) Good Things “He restores my soul” For true restoration to come, we have to recognize that TODAY is the day God has made for us. …not yesterday. Not tomorrow. One day at a time. (the hourglass) persistent faith is one day – one step – at a time ( ) Can you be present and mindful in THIS day and allow God to give you the grace for this moment in time? It is really all you need. we have to stop clinging to that old familiarity in order to reach out for more There may be struggles, there may be uneasiness as the old crumbles away… “none of these things move me” Imperturbability God’s daily grace is here to lift you and carry you through this very day. Eph 1:18: I pray that God will open your minds to see his truth. Then you will know the hope that he has chosen us to have. Transcription Any written text transcribed from a sound Power in the Presence Luke 10:38-42 Sometimes it feels like I am riding an emotional roller coaster… “One moment you’re up – the next you’re down.” Does this describe you? Doesn’t this seemingly describe everyone? Do you have woulda-coulda-shoulda’s? “Left to my own devices” It’s normal to feel occasional feelings of discouragement - - but the successful people in life learn how to deal with those moments and push on. to discourage - cause (someone) to lose confidence or enthusiasm. The enemy wants to dis-courage you and make you feel unenthused about pursuing your dream – about changing your life – about serving the Lord. “The matters on your heart matter to God.” When we get inspired – whether it’s by a scripture that stirs our heart, a song that moves us, or a flash of memory that reminds us of who we want to become or what we want to accomplish in our lives… this is a seed. …A seed that can take root in our hearts and cause us to live life on a higher level. …or not. Jesus warned us of how certain things can rob us of the power of those seeds… Mark 4:18, 19: The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. The cares of this world can put your fire out with dis-couragement. It’s 2025: This is no time for discouragement. “The cares of this world” will try to tell us that there’s no point in even trying – - and yet, all around the world there are people making a difference. (and yet) …even today - There are people getting healthier. There are people building successful businesses. There are people living victorious Christian lives and not continuing down the old paths of their old nature. ? Do you dare to be en-couraged today? Are you willing to let God in-spire you with enthusiasm as His Word speaks directly into your heart? The answers are waiting in the Presence of the Lord Col 1:22: ...he reconnected you back to himself. He released his supernatural peace to you through the sacrifice of his own body as the sin-payment on your behalf so that you would dwell in his presence. And now there is nothing between you and Father God, for he sees you as holy, flawless, and restored God says His Word will not return to Him void. He desires that when you hear the Word that it takes root in you and changes you. Ø Something struck me big-time one morning as I was praying. I can’t even get close to the president. My congressman probably wouldn’t have any time for me. I probably couldn’t get a sit-down meeting even with our mayor (not very easily) …and yet – here I am – talking to the Creator of the Universe. I’m not just “talking to the sky” – or to a voicemail. I am talking to and with GOD. How awesome is that? 1 Peter 3:12: For the eyes of the Lord YAHWEH rest upon the godly, and His heart responds to their prayers. I don’t have to go to a heavenly “waiting room” and have some angel take down my message and hope that maybe they will put it on God’s desk somehow. I commune with the Father. I come directly into His Presence. A famous minister spoke of being on an elevator in a high-rise building. He said he’d never been particularly comfortable on such elevators. There was something about riding up and down in a little box several hundred feet off the ground that has never sat well with him. He worried that something would go wrong. One day it did. The car he was riding in got stuck in between floors way up in the higher floors. He noted that some of the people in the car became frantic. They began to beat on the door hoping to get someone’s attention. Others began to yell in the hopes that their voices would get someone on the surrounding floors to come to the aid. But nobody heard their noise or their cries. He quietly made his way to the front of the car, opened a little door in the wall and pulled out a telephone. Immediately he was connected with someone on the outside. He didn’t need to beat on the wall to get their attention. He didn’t need to speak loudly in the phone to receive their help. He could have whispered and they would have heard him. The preacher said that - in this world, we’re going to get "stuck" in places we aren’t comfortable with. Some people begin to beat against the walls, others cry out in dismay. But the person who trusts in the power of confident prayer knows there’s someone on the other end who hears their call and comes to their aid. Two Lessons: 1. The desperation, panic and shouting were unnecessary 2. Once the call was made, the people could rest and let the experts do their work Hebrews 10:19 tells us that we now can have "boldness" to enter into very presence of God because of the blood of Jesus: And now we are brothers and sisters in God’s family because of the blood of Jesus, and he welcomes us to come into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm—boldly and without hesitation. Paul wrote (2 Corinthians 3:5) Yet we don’t see ourselves as capable enough to do anything in our own strength, for our true competence flows from God’s empowering presence. Jesus has opened the way for us to approach God’s throne and earnestly ask whatever It is an awesome thing to know that because of the Cross, we can come into the very Presence of God. Acts 3:19 says, “times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” If your enthusiasm is waning – if your spirit needs a boost – the place for renewal is in God’s Presence. If “the worries of this life” can choke out the Word and cause it to be of no affect, then the obvious solution is to not allow those cares to take root in your heart. In our gospel lesson today: Martha let the cares of other things keep her in stress, even as Mary sat at Jesus feet and rested in His Presence. 2 Cor 3:4: We carry this confidence in our hearts because of our union with Christ before God. There is a time to work… there is a time to think about things that must be done. …but there is also a time to rest. The needful thing at that time is to let Jesus do what you cannot. We all need those “times of refreshing” that “come from the presence of the Lord” Holy Communion is just such a time. It is a “means of grace.” It is a means of God getting through to you with His grace and His renewal. We’ve got to enter into His rest so the Word can do its perfect work in our hearts. all we are to do in this sacrament is to (by His grace) receive by faith with thanksgiving “…the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” We’ve got to become Good Soil. Say, “I am good soil” It’s so easy to get distracted. Even in church. Jesus keeps calling us to come to Him – to trust Him – to rest in His care for us. “how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” The Savior is calling to us – calling us home – calling us to rest. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Maybe there is an inner battle going on in you right now that is causing you to struggle? Is there a struggle – a sin – an addiction - that you want freedom from but cannot seem to overcome? Does it maybe even seem hopeless? TODAY: Recognize that all things are possible to those who believe. From a scriptural standpoint, you already have the victory because Jesus won it for you. You have to accept this by faith and now begin to thank Him for that victory. (reality) YOU cannot conquer it. His Word reveals to us that He is reliable. He will not go back on his word, and anyone who puts their full trust in Him will never be let down Ø Transform these feeling of hopelessness into thankfulness and right-thinking so I just want to encourage you - you who are worn down by this constant struggle that you just can't seem to shake out of your life you have in front of you an opportunity to witness the power of God and one day you'll be sharing your testimony and encouraging somebody else regarding those same struggles 1 Cor 15:10: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. so remember, you cannot conquer it. You must surrender it to God in full faith that He is able to make a way through it just like He took his people out of Egypt and he made a way for them God does the same thing for us in our life today. Be thankful. Romans 6:14 Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God. You may have battles today, but God is not fighting for your battles. He is fighting for YOU. He's going to lift the heavy end but you have a responsibility to walk forward in faith, in obedience to Him You can take the next step of faith by thanking God for the grace that allows us to rise above our circumstances. If “according to your faith it is done unto you,” – where are you directing your faith? ? Are your words lining up with what you think you believe? “A double-minded person is unstable in all their ways” ? Is your faith moving in the same direction as what Jesus paid the price for you to have today? Jesus always prepared the atmosphere of faith by beginning His prayer with thanks to God. “and when He had given thanks” “Father, thank you that you have heard my prayer, for you listen to every word I speak.” It’s time to follow Jesus’ example and thank God in advance for what He is about to accomplish in your life beginning today. FOCUS on Jesus’ finished work – not on yourself. Remember: Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. It was a time to redirect our focus a bit – and hopefully (for some) to get a little rest. It’s January – and things are getting busy again. Returning is an act of coming back – maybe for some of you went back to your home town to see family – or maybe family returned home to see you? Returning is an act of coming back – maybe it’s a physical return – but I can also be an emotional return – appreciating the ones who love you the most. Maybe it is a spiritual return. Returning is an act of coming back – it can mean coming back into God’s Holy Presence and receiving the restoration that cannot be found elsewhere. It means making a place in your heart to ABIDE once again. Jonathan Edwards: “In close meditation, prayer and conversing with God, when alone and separated from the world, a true Christian doubtless delights… to converse with God in solitude and this also has peculiar advantages for fixing his heart, for fixing what is inside him.” “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” The verse is a message from the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, that returning to him and resting in him will save people. The verse also says that quietness and trust will give people strength. We all need those people and places where we can let down our guard and just be ourselves. Fully let our hair down (so to speak) Those people and places provide acceptance and grace. Our heavenly Father offers us that – and so much more. It’s still January… our New Year has just begun. It’s time to Return. It’s time to Come Home “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” Returning is an act of coming back – it can mean coming back into God’s Holy Presence and receiving the restoration that cannot be found elsewhere. Job 22:21-23: Come to terms with God and be at peace; in this way[c] good will come to you. Receive instruction from his mouth, and place his sayings in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be renewed. Returning (in our Christian lives) usually entails some form of repentance. Maybe repenting of something we previously weren’t even aware of. God’s direction in our lives will restore our souls and gives us wisdom for living a better, more fulfilling life. People sometimes say to me, “I don’t know how you do everything you do.” I know from them it is coming from a place of love and concern for my well-being. …but the truth is, I don’t do everything I should be doing. (not proud of that fact) Sometimes (for me) overwhelm causes me to just shut down and do nothing, as opposed to doing what I should be doing. Time management and self-preservation may actually devolve into a form of selfishness. That’s where repentance can open the door to returning to right thinking, right actions, based on right priorities. “Confess you faults one to another that ye may be healed” (forgiven – restored) “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” It’s time to Return. It’s time to Come Home I believe the act of returning here is first and foremost a heart issue. …and returning requires that we leave someplace else. Returning also means leaving some other place Forsaking abandon (someone or something). renounce or give up (something valued or pleasant) We have to give up – renounce – turn – turn away (forsake an old pattern) It seems that choice will always redirect us to some form of service – service to God – service to others To use the gifts we were given and blessed to be able to share To follow the example of Christ Gal 6:2: Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. “Love empowers us to fulfill the law of the Anointed One as we carry each other's troubles.” Jesus told us what His commands were: Matt 22:37-39: Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. We are only branches – apart from Christ we can do nothing …but we yield, and we find our empowerment through the Vine “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” “He restores my soul.” “If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored…” It’s God Grace that will allows us to enter into that secret place – that place of stillness and rest. Have you ever had a moment of awareness where you finally realized you were not on the right path? …of course you have, right? So doesn’t that also mean we should show grace to those who are still awaiting that moment of revelation? That epiphany that leads to repentance? When we recognize how good and merciful God has been to us Like the prodigal son: “When he came to himself…” To whom much has been given… What will we do with the time we have left? Time is short, but God is great. "Eternity is calling your soul. It inspires you to awaken, to dream again, and to take risks." A place of peace and restoration is always there ...it is we who have to return to it. In Zechariah 1:3 Almighty GOD says: “Return to me, and I will return to you.” Let God’s Word guide you back to that place of returning to Him today. Transcription Any written text transcribed from a sound The Power of Purpose 2025 Col 1:12-14 Last week I heard this great quote: “Purpose isn't just about knowing what to do. It's about knowing why you do it.” I sent it to my self as an email so I could reference it later. When I went back to search my emails , I used the word “purpose” and found I had to already wade through 2 pages of emails in order to find it. What I am saying is, people talk a LOT about “purpose.” Back during World War II, enemies torpedoed a Navy cruiser carrying more than 1,100 crewmembers. As the ship sank into the frigid water, the crew floundered in the sea for five days. They were starving, drowning, and being attacked by sharks. The ocean current pulled nine of the guys away, splintering off from the rest of the ranks. Seeing these men were beginning to lose their will, a young officer started asking them about their families and lives back home. He asked them to describe what they were going to do when they got back. He asked them what they wanted to accomplish and what difference they wanted to make. He had them envision how scared their spouses and children were; how their parents must feel not knowing if they were alive. He asked them to fight to stay alive, not just for themselves but for their loved ones back home. Finally a passing plane spotted the men in the water. Two-thirds of the 1,100 crew members perished. However, all nine inspired by that young officer lived. This story helps illustrate the importance of purpose & vision. Prov 29:18 - where there is no vision, the people perish. What is the vision for your life? It needs to be bigger than yourself. What are you willing to fight for; who are you willing to fight for; …or rather… live for? Our Vision should rise from our Purpose. Purpose is what we are here to focus on today – right at the early start of 2025. purpose: the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. have as one's intention or objective. Our Vision should rise from our Purpose. Our purpose should guide our choices in life. Where we go in 2025 will depend largely upon where we are looking. Your hearts can soar with joyful gratitude when you think of how God made you worthy to receive the glorious inheritance freely given to us by living in the light. He has rescued us completely from the tyrannical rule of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom realm of his beloved Son. For in the Son all our sins are canceled and we have the release of redemption through his very blood. Isn’t wonderful to know that no matter what your past was – you can have a spotless future? Fact: GOD has a bigger vision and purpose for your life than you can comprehend right now. Eph 3:20 – GOD “is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Col 1:16 - For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. So you – as a created being – were created for Him – and you therefore have a purpose for being here. What is your purpose? What is my purpose? I know we all struggle with that question at times. Some people struggle for a lifetime. Many people live a life based on a selfish, self-serving purpose. If that is the case, and we are pursuing our own stuff – we are working on our own. If you are pursuing your Divine Purpose – GOD is your partner. - and HE will add HIS “Super” to your “Natural” What’s something that irritates you? What do you see that needs to be changed or improved? Maybe that is your purpose rising up in your soul. Your questions just may be revealing your calling – your purpose ? What if YOU were the one called to address these needs? The health clubs may be full this week – filled with people who made that their New Year’s resolution. …but we all know all too well that most won’t make it to February Will 2025 be an amazing year of breakthrough for you? “According to your faith it is done unto you.” There are a lot of ways to make a true SHIFT in the upcoming year. One of those ways is in how we speak about our lives. Our words. Your true core beliefs will manifest in the words you speak over your life. Prov 12:14 - A man will be satisfied with good from the fruit of his words “The sower sows the word.” (Mark 4:14) What are you sowing in your life?  We can waste our days or we can invest them. Get beyond the petty and go for Purpose. You may think you have missed out by being in the wrong place and the wrong time. In the carnal landscape it may be “Location. Location. Location.” but in the spiritual realm, God’s Plans and Purposes will still prevail. His Favor upon your life goes wherever you go. Psalm 30:5: His favor is for a lifetime Psalm 1:3 - They are like a tree replanted by streams of water, which bears fruit at just the right time and whose leaves don’t fade. Whatever they do succeeds. Your Purpose will override the distractions and you will move forward like a laser-guided missile. Here’s a story to help illustrate this: In the Andes Mountains, there were two warring tribes that not-so-peacefully co-existed—one that lived in the lowlands and the other, high in the mountains. One day, the mountain people invaded the lowlanders plundering and kidnapping a baby from the village. They vanished with the child and took her back up into the mountains. The lowlanders—pushed to action at the disappearance of one of their own—didn’t know how to climb the mountain. They didn’t know any of the trails that the mountain people used, and they didn’t know where to find the mountain people or how to track them in the steep terrain. Even so, they sent out their best party of fighting men to climb the mountain and bring the baby home. The men first tried one method of climbing and then another. They tried one trail and then another. After several days of effort, however, they had climbed only a few hundred feet. Feeling hopeless and helpless, the lowlander men decided that the cause was lost, and they prepared to return to their village below. Do you really believe something is possible? Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” we are transformed (go beyond our current situation) – (or) our algorhythm is updated – by the renewing of our minds. My question is, Are you expecting a favor-filled year? Are you anticipating great things? Are the eyes of your heart flooded with light, or have they become dim?
