John
12:12-19
You
cannot
grasp
something
new
without
releasing
something
old.
We
sometimes
think
we
can
grow
and
change
without
realizing
some
old
concepts
and
misconceptions
will
have
to
be
let
go
of.
We
must
be
willing
to
be
transplanted
from
the
flower
pot
and
into
the
garden.
I
like
new
adventures
and
new
opportunities
to
learn
and
grow.
The
only
way
you
can
take
advantage
of
those
things
is
to
be
able
to
leave
the
old
baggage
behind.
No
wonder
Jesus
told
us
we
cannot
put
“new
wine
in
old
wine
skins.”
Jesus
said
He
makes
“all
things
new.”
The
Victory
won
at
the
Cross
includes
forgiveness,
peace
of
mind…
and
a
new
life.
2
Cor
5:17
–
“This
means
that
anyone
who
belongs
to
Christ
has
become
a
new
person.
The
old
life
is
gone;
a
new
life
has
begun!”
Do
you
ever
look
back
at
the
past
and
re-live
it -
just
like
it
happened
today?
If
God
has
closed
a
door,
why
do
we
insist
on
trying
to
reopen
it?
Jesus
said
to
the
woman,
"Where
are
your
accusers?
Didn't
even
one
of
them
condemn
you?"
"No,
Lord,"
she
said.
And
Jesus
said,
"Neither
do
I.
Go
and
sin
no
more."
“Every
day
is a
gift
from
God.
There's
no
guarantee
of
tomorrow,
so
that
tells
me
to
see
the
good
in
this
day
to
make
the
most
of
it.”
That
sounds
great
– as
long
as
you
are
free
to
fully
participate
in
this
new
day
that
God
has
given
us.
If
the
weight
of
the
past
is
still
on
your
shoulders,
you’re
not
really
free
to
experience
this
new
day
–
because
part
of
yesterday
is
still
clouding
up
your
heart.
Jesus
: -
“I
am
making
everything
new!”
Then
he
said,
“Write
this
down,
for
these
words
are
trustworthy
and
true.”
John
12:12-19:
The
next
day
the
news
that
Jesus
was
on
his
way
to
Jerusalem
swept
through
the
massive
crowd
gathered
for
the
feast.
So
they
took
palm
branches
and
went
out
to
meet
him.
Everyone
was
shouting,
“Lord,
be
our
Savior!
Blessed
is
the
one
who
comes
to
us
sent
from
Jehovah-God,
the
King
of
Israel!”
Then
Jesus
found
a
young
donkey
and
rode
on
it
to
fulfill
what
was
prophesied:
“People
of
Zion,
have
no
fear!
Look—it’s
your
king
coming
to
you
riding
on a
young
donkey!”
Now
Jesus’
disciples
didn’t
fully
understand
the
importance
of
what
was
taking
place,
but
after
he
was
raised
and
exalted
into
glory,
they
understood
how
Jesus
fulfilled
all
the
prophecies
in
the
Scriptures
that
were
written
about
him.
All
the
eyewitnesses
of
the
miracle
Jesus
performed
when
he
called
Lazarus
out
of
the
tomb
and
raised
him
from
the
dead
kept
spreading
the
news
about
Jesus
to
everyone.
The
news
of
this
miracle
of
resurrection
caused
the
crowds
to
swell
as
great
numbers
of
people
welcomed
him
into
the
city
with
joy.
But
the
Pharisees
were
disturbed
by
this
and
said
to
each
other,
“We
won’t
be
able
to
stop
this.
The
whole
world
is
going
to
run
after
him!”
Despite
all
the
good
Jesus
had
done
–
and
all
He
told
them
He
had
come
to
accomplish
–
“the
Pharisees
were
disturbed
by
this
and
said
to
each
other,
‘We
won’t
be
able
to
stop
this.
The
whole
world
is
going
to
run
after
him!’”
They
were
holding
on
to
an
Old
Testament
world
that
seemed
to
suit
them
just
fine.
It
kept
them
in
control.
Reminds
me
of
Moses
leading
the
children
of
Israel
out
of
Egypt.
Despite
everything
they
had
seen
and
experienced
–
despite
the
miracle
working
power
by
the
Hand
of
God
to
deliver
them
out
of
bondage
–
they
still
found
themselves
doubting…
even
looking
back
fondly
at
their
time
in
captivity.
Numbers
11:5,6:
-
“We
remember
the
fish
we
ate
in
Egypt
at
no
cost—also
the
cucumbers,
melons,
leeks,
onions
and
garlic.
But
now
we
have
lost
our
appetite;
we
never
see
anything
but
this
manna!”
Exodus
14:10-12:
As
Pharaoh
approached,
the
Israelites
looked
up,
and
there
were
the
Egyptians,
marching
after
them.
They
were
terrified
and
cried
out
to
the
LORD.
They
said
to
Moses,
“Was
it
because
there
were
no
graves
in
Egypt
that
you
brought
us
to
the
desert
to
die?
What
have
you
done
to
us
by
bringing
us
out
of
Egypt?
Didn’t
we
say
to
you
in
Egypt,
‘Leave
us
alone;
let
us
serve
the
Egyptians’?
It
would
have
been
better
for
us
to
serve
the
Egyptians
than
to
die
in
the
desert!”
The
old
mindset
will
fight
desperately
to
survive.
Comfort
zones
may
not
always
have
been
so
“comfortable”
-
yet
we
have
been
conditioned
to
accept
them
as
they
way
things
are
and
will
always
be.
The
friends
of
your
old
mindset
will
also
fight
desperately
to
keep
you
with
them
and
their
way
of
thinking.
The
carnal
mind
cannot
comprehend
the
Grace
of
God.
Everyone
deserves
a
new
start
–
because
God
loves
us
all
the
same.
“Forget
the
former
things;
do
not
dwell
on
the
past.
See,
I am
doing
a
new
thing!
Now
it
springs
up;
do
you
not
perceive
it?
I am
making
a
way
in
the
wilderness
and
streams
in
the
wasteland.”
This
was
a
prophetic
Word
for
the
Children
of
Zion.
In
the
next
chapter:
“For
I
will
pour
water
on
the
thirsty
land,
and
streams
on
the
dry
ground;
I
will
pour
out
my
Spirit
on
your
offspring,
and
my
blessing
on
your
descendants.
They
will
spring
up
like
grass
in a
meadow,
like
poplar
trees
by
flowing
streams.”
Who
are
these
offspring
–
these
descendants?
These
are
the
New
Covenant
Children
of
God.
The
Redeemed
of
the
Lord.
This
New
Covenant
–
the
promise
of a
“new
thing”
-
came
through
the
Blood
of
Christ
–
shed
on
the
Cross
for
you
and
me.
‘We
won’t
be
able
to
stop
this.
The
whole
world
is
going
to
run
after
him!’”
“Forget
the
former
things;
do
not
dwell
on
the
past.
See,
I am
doing
a
new
thing!
Now
it
springs
up;
do
you
not
perceive
it?
That
“new
thing”
rises
out
of
us
through
Christ
in
us.
Hebrews
13:20
“May
he
produce
in
you,
through
the
power
of
Jesus
Christ,
every
good
thing
that
is
pleasing
to
him.”
The
Message
of
the
Cross
is
that
we
can
have
a
new
life
through
Jesus
Christ.
The
Message
Jesus
preached
was
a
threat
to
the
old
guard
–
the
old
rule
of
law
and
judgment.
When
Jesus
rode
into
Jerusalem
on
the
donkey…
Despite
all
the
good
Jesus
had
done
–
and
all
He
told
them
He
had
come
to
accomplish
–
“the
Pharisees
were
disturbed
by
this
and
said
to
each
other,
‘We
won’t
be
able
to
stop
this.
The
whole
world
is
going
to
run
after
him!’”
You
can
be a
real
Christian
and
still
be
living
under
real
guilt
and
real
condemnation
over
things
you
have
done
in
the
past.
(agreed?)
Our
Spirit
has
been
born
again,
but
our
minds
have
to
be
transformed
–
our
souls
renewed.
Renew
you
mind
–
renew
your
life.
If
you
think
the
same
old
thoughts,
you’ll
replay
the
same
old
life.
What
if I
told
you…
You
are
being
held
back
by a
distant
memory
of
who
you
used
to
be?
(not
who
you
are
today)
Satan
is
the
accuser
–
and
he
would
love
to
keep
you
in
shackles
over
your
past
mistakes.
“Behold,
I
make
all
things
new.”
Do
you
believe
you
really
have
Christ
in
you?
Then
why
do
you
feel
limited?
It
is
only
by
looking
back
– or
feeling
stuck
in
our
pasts
–
that
we
can
still
live
in
condemnation.
The
voice
of
condemnation
is
not
the
voice
of
the
Holy
Spirit
– so
we
shouldn’t
listen
to
that
condemning
voice-
no
matter
where
it
is
coming
from.
If
God
says
you
are
forgiven,
you
are
forgiven.
If
Jesus
says
He
“makes
all
things
new”
then
they
are
new.
Maybe
you
don’t
feel
that
things
are
new
just
yet?
David
wrote:
Psalm
42:5,
6:
“Why
am I
discouraged?
Why
is
my
heart
so
sad?
I
will
put
my
hope
in
God!
I
will
praise
him
again--my
Savior
and
my
God!
Now
I am
deeply
discouraged,
but
I
will
remember
you…”
Verse
8:
“each
day
the
LORD
pours
his
unfailing
love
upon
me,
and
through
each
night
I
sing
his
songs,
praying
to
God
who
gives
me
life.”
You
need
a
refreshing?
The
Bible
says
“times
of
refreshing
come
from
the
Presence
of
the
Lord.”
Acts
3:19
–
“Repent,
then,
and
turn
to
God,
so
that
your
sins
may
be
wiped
out,
that
times
of
refreshing
may
come
from
the
Lord…”
