Resurrection
Sunday

2022
2
Cor
5:16-21
It
may
be
the
second
quarter
of
the
year,
but
is
it
too
late
for
New
Year’s
resolutions?
Saturday
morning
I
was
once
again
feeling
the
need
to
eat
better.
What
we
do
one
day
we
often
feel
the
next.
At
the
time,
it
may
feel
great
to
overdo
it –
but
the
next
day
we
may
be
kicking
ourselves.
Healthy
eating
is
like
planting
a
crop.
It
brings
forth
a
better
harvest.
If
we
live
off
of
fried
chicken,
we
may
find
a
less
than
desirable
harvest.
But
life
is
all
about
balance,
right?
J
Even
yesterday
morning
I
received
a
text
message
about
a
new
health
and
diet
supplement.
There’s
always
some
popular
diet
–
some
current
food
that
is
getting
all
of
the
attention.
If
you’re
as
old
as I
am,
you
remember
when
cottage
cheese
was
the
thing
to
eat
for
health.
Seems
kinda
odd,
now,
but…
Is
kale
still
the
trendy
food
to
eat?
There’s
always
something
new
popping
up.
Who
knows?
I
can
eat
it,
but
unless
it’s
cooked
just
right,
I’m
not
really
wild
about
it.
Let’s
suppose
a
farmer
has
decided
that
since
kale
is
such
a
hot
item,
he
decides
to
stop
growing
turnips
and
grow
kale
instead.
…but,
at
the
end
of
the
season,
he
once
again
has
a
harvest
of
turnips.
Why?
Does
he
wake
up
one
morning
in
shock
that
his
field
is
full
of
turnips
again?
Gen
8:22
–
“As
long
as
the
earth
remains,
there
will
be
planting
and
harvest…”
The
Bible
tells
us,
“Don't
be
misled--you
cannot
mock
the
justice
of
God.
You
will
always
harvest
what
you
plant.”
(Galatians
6:7)
Today
we
wake
up
and
look
at
our
own
fields
of
harvest.
What
are
we
raising
out
of
the
soil
of
our
lives?
Are
you
waking
up
to a
new
day
of
hope
and
promise
– or
is
it
filled
with
the
bitter
sting
of
the
words,
“You
will
always
harvest
what
you
plant.”
Are
you
carrying
the
mistakes
of
Saturday
into
your
Resurrection
Sunday?
What
do
you
think
of
the
Message
of
the
Cross?
1
Cor
1:18
The
Message
of
the
Empty
Tomb
is a
message
of
New
Hope
for
you
today.
The
Word
teaches
us
that
before
we
can
experience
a
Resurrection
in
our
lives,
we
first
have
to
have
a
death
and
burial
of
the
old.
Resurrection
Sunday
is
the
ultimate
declaration
of
Jesus
victory
for
all
of
us.
It
is
the
Hope
of a
better
life
starting
right
away.
Rev
1:18
– “I
Am
the
living
one.
I
died,
but
look--I
am
alive
forever
and
ever!
And
I
hold
the
keys
of
death
and
the
grave.”
Easter
is a
Message
of
Hope.
Do
you
need
a
new
hope
today?
Maybe
you
look
at
your
life
–
and
at
the
fields
you
know
are
blooming
into
a
harvest
–
and
you
wish
you
could
back
up
and
plant
different
seeds.
Maybe
you
need
a
miracle
in
your
life
today.
Easter
is
the
perfect
time
to
receive
your
miracle
–
because
it
was
the
Cross
and
Jesus’
resurrection
that
makes
miracle
possible.
The
Bible
says,
“For
the
wages
of
sin
is
death…”
(Romans
6:23)
Our
wages
are
the
harvest
we
receive
for
what
we
have
sown
in
our
lives.
Gal
6:8
–
“Those
who
live
only
to
satisfy
their
own
sinful
nature
will
harvest
decay
and
death
from
that
sinful
nature.”
“As
long
as
the
earth
remains,
there
will
be
planting
and
harvest…”
“For
the
wages
of
sin
is
death…”
Where
is
the
Hope?
Where
is
the
miracle?
“For
the
wages
of
sin
is
death,
but
the
free
gift
of
God
is
eternal
life
through
Christ
Jesus
our
Lord.”
"It
is
finished"
is
the
English
translation
of
the
Greek
word
Tetelestai,
(tet-a-lest-ai)
which
was
the
last
thing
Jesus
said
before
dying
on
the
cross.
Tetelestai
comes
from
the
verb
teleo,
which
means
"to
bring
to
an
end,
to
complete,
to
accomplish."
It
is a
word
used
to
indicate
“the
debt
has
been
fully
paid”
–
uiused
in
both
business
and
the
court
systems.
But
there's
more
here
than
the
verb
itself.
Tetelestai
is
in
the
perfect
tense
in
Greek.
That's
significant
because
the
perfect
tense
speaks
of
an
action
which
has
been
completed
in
the
past
with
results
continuing
into
the
present.
It's
different
from
the
past
tense
which
looks
back
to
an
event
and
says,
"This
happened."
The
perfect
tense
adds
the
idea
that
"This
happened
and
it
is
still
in
effect
today."
The
Price
has
been
paid.
The
curse
has
been
broken.
Romans
5:8
–
“God
showed
His
great
love
for
us
by
sending
Christ
to
die
for
us
while
we
were
still
sinners.”
If
there
ever
were
a
reason
for
HOPE
– it
is
now.
The
Message
of
Easter.
If
life
has
not
gone
as
you
had
planned…
Easter
is a
sunrise
of
Hope
for
you.
Will
you
accept
the
gift
that
God
offers
you
today?
“For
the
wages
of
sin
is
death,
but
the
free
gift
of
God
is
eternal
life
through
Christ
Jesus
our
Lord.”
The
world
teaches
us
to
sow
to
ourselves
– to
please
ourselves.
“Whoever
sows
to
please
their
flesh,
from
the
flesh
will
reap
destruction;
whoever
sows
to
please
the
Spirit,
from
the
Spirit
will
reap
eternal
life.”
A
farmer
can
look
at
his
field
and
see
what
he
has
planted
and
cared
for.
We
can
look
at
our
lives
and
see
the
harvest
of
our
own
seeds
we’ve
planted.
If
we
want
a
better
harvest,
we
need
to
plant
better
seeds.
We
must
die
to
the
old
life
–
the
old
nature
– in
order
to
experience
the
new.
Because
of
the
Cross
– we
have
a
New
Hope
Romans
6:6
-
“We
know
that
our
old
sinful
selves
were
crucified
with
Christ
so
that
sin
might
lose
its
power
in
our
lives.
We
are
no
longer
slaves
to
sin.”
If
anyone
is
in
Christ,
they
are
a
New
Creation…
We
must
die
to
the
old
life
–
the
old
nature
– in
order
to
experience
the
new.
Col
3:3
-
For
you
died
to
this
life,
and
your
real
life
is
hidden
with
Christ
in
God.
Jesus
promised:
"I
am
the
resurrection
and
the
life.
Anyone
who
believes
in
me
will
live,
even
after
dying.”
Gal
2:20:
My
old
self
has
been
crucified
with
Christ.
It
is
no
longer
I
who
live,
but
Christ
lives
in
me.
So I
live
in
this
earthly
body
by
trusting
in
the
Son
of
God,
who
loved
me
and
gave
himself
for
me.
God
is
calling
us
to a
higher
place
– a
better
life.
A
life
of
wholeness
and
salvation.
Of
His
Peace
and
Restoration.
There
is
New
Life
through
Jesus
Christ.
A
new
harvest
awaits
us –
with
fields
that
flourish
with
life.
There
is a
New
Hope.
Your
debt
has
been
paid
in
full.
Jesus
says,
"This
cup
is
the
new
covenant
between
God
and
his
people--an
agreement
confirmed
with
my
blood.”
The
New
Covenant
is
about
God’s
Love
reaching
out
to
us
It’s
about
God’s
grace.
“The
law
of
the
Spirit
of
Life
in
Christ
Jesus
has
made
us
free
from
the
law
of
sin
and
death.”
We
live
in a
New
Testament
–
New
Covenant
world
–
but
only
if
we
are
willing
to
die
to
the
old
and
be
born
again
to
the
new.
John
1:17
-
“For
the
law
was
given
through
Moses;
grace
and
truth
came
through
Jesus
Christ.”
God’s
Grace
came
to
us
through
Jesus
Christ.
This
grace
gives
us
hope
for
a
better
life.
Paul
wrote:
“I
pray
that
the
eyes
of
your
heart
may
be
enlightened
in
order
that
you
may
know
the
hope
to
which
he
has
called
you,
the
riches
of
his
glorious
inheritance
in
his
holy
people,
and
his
incomparably
great
power
for
us
who
believe.”
Do
you
understand
the
Hope
of
Your
Calling?
God
has
a
specific
mission
and
purpose
for
your
life.
He
will
reveal
it
all
to
you
if
you
will
move
forward
and
stop
looking
behind
you.
If
the
world
had
the
answers
you
seek,
you
would
have
already
found
them.
Stop
looking
back
–
that
is
not
where
your
future
lies.
Don’t
be
like
Lot’s
wife!
Jesus
said,
“Remember
what
happened
to
Lot's
wife!
If
you
cling
to
your
life,
you
will
lose
it,
and
if
you
let
your
life
go,
you
will
save
it.”
“the
Hope
of
Your
Calling”
Knowing
you
have
a
calling
on
your
life
gives
you
hope.
We
need
to
recognize
why
we’re
here
on
earth.
If
you
have
a
calling,
you
have
a
hope,
because
God
says
He
will
finish
what
He
started.
“Christ
in
You
–
the
Hope
of
Glory.”
Glory
is
God’s
Goodness
manifested
in
your
life!
Wesley
:
“Christ
dwelling
and
reigning
in
you,
The
hope
of
glory
-
The
ground
of
your
hope.”
Trusting
in
God
as
your
Hope
means
taking
the
burden
off
of
you
–
and
trust
in
Christ
IN
you.
It’s
not
you!
It’s
Christ
IN
you!
Before
there
can
be a
resurrection,
there
must
first
be a
death
and
burial.
Resurrection
Sunday
is
the
perfect
time
for
you
let
go
of
the
past
and
reach
out
for
the
new
life
Jesus
offers
you
today.
