    Trust in God’s Goodness

    Psalm 118:8 - It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.诗篇 118:8:  投靠耶和华胜过倚靠人。(page 1002)

    Psalm 63:8 - With passion I pursue and cling to you. Because I feel your grip on my life, I keep my soul close to your heart.
    诗篇 63:8: 我的心依恋你,你的右手扶持我。(page 942)

    Romans 10:10 - For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
    羅 馬 書 10:10: 因 为 人 心 里 相 信 , 就 可 以 称 义 ; 口 里 承 认 , 就 可 以 得 救 。 (pg 1836)

    Psalm 19:7:  The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.
    The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
    诗篇 19:7: 耶和华的律法完美,能更新生命;
    耶和华的法度可靠,让愚人有智慧。(page 707)

    Lam 3:22-26: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

    Trust in God’s Goodness

    Psalm 118:1-8

     

    “When I was a child…”

     

    Most of us can recall when we did foolish things, and when our parents questioned us about our poor choices, we would reply, “But everyone else was doing it.”

     “If your friends jumped into the fire, would you do it, too?” “If your friends jumped into the fire, would you do it, too?”

    “If your friends jumped off the bridge, would you do it, too?”

     

    Part of truly coming into maturity means thinking wisely, and walking in moral and spiritual integrity.

     

    “Put away childish things” and “be not conformed to this world,” both seem to work together.

     

     

    It is said King David was “a man after God’s own heart.”

     

    I believe one of the reasons for this was David showed complete trust in God

     

    David trusted in the goodness of God always.

     

    Psalm 118:8 - It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

     

     

    David was a man after God’s own heart. David trusted in the goodness of God

     

    David may have had his share of scars and mistakes, but he always came back to God.

     

    Psalm 63:1-3: O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You, my flesh faints for You, in a dry and thirsty land with no water.  I have seen You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.  Because Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips will praise You.

     

    If we are to be the people after God’s own heart, we must seek the Lord with all our hearts – not our minds

    We must learn to trust (in our hearts) in the goodness of God

     

    Trust in the goodness and mercy of God – even in 2022.
    Even in the storm – even as it seems the whole world is falling apart.

     

    Isn’t that what true faith is all about?

     

    ? Does your heart expect to see the goodness of God?

     

    David’s heart sought God’s heart – even at an early age.

     

    Remember Jesus said, “So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen.”

     

    When Samuel went to find the next king of Israel, David was last on = the family’s list

     

    1 Sam 13:14:  “The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart”

     

    King David may have made his share of mistakes, but he also, more importantly, sought to please God with his life and follow God’s path for his life and his nation.

     

    Psalm 1:1,2: Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night

     

    Psalm 19:7:  The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.
    The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.


    The Lord’s Instruction is perfect, reviving one’s very being. The Lord’s laws are faithful, making naive people wise.

     

    If we trust in the goodness of God, we must also trust in the sovereignty of God

    Isaiah 45:9 - Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, 'Stop, you're doing it wrong!'

     

    He is Vine. We are the branches. He is the Potter. We are the clay.

     

    We live in a day when man wants to create God in their own image – they’re own ideas.

     

    This past week we went to the movies – something we don’t often do.

     

    Since I rarely watch regular television, I know I have missed a lot.

    But I was shocked – horrified – at the level our culture has fallen over the past 18 months.

    …and if we don’t accept all of this, we are the problem

     

    Eph 5:12 - For it is shameful even to speak of those things

     

    Augustine:  “If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don't like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself.”

     

    When I was Elementary school they took prayer and bible reading out of the classrooms by law.

    Now, by law, they are teaching things that are absolutely contrary to the Word of God.

     

    Reality: We all have loved ones who have embraced a totally non-biblical way of viewing the world.

     

    We’ve often compromised – or looked the other way – in order to avoid conflict.

    But what has been the result of our denial?

     

    If we love them we need to speak the truth while we still can.

     

    We’ve said today that we need to believe in the goodness of God.

     

    Romans 2:4 – the goodness of God leads you to repentance

     

     

    Repentance is the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts convicting us of our sin and pointing us to Jesus. The Holy Spirit points us to Jesus Christ.

     

    The world has gone so far in the other direction that it will take quite a bit to open people’s eyes to the truth

    It will be God’s goodness and mercy – still trying to recuse us from our own destruction

     

    When Pharaoh held Israel in slavery – in captivity – God was still trying to soften his heart – to even show him undeserved mercy.

     

    Exodus 8:30-32 - Then Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord,  and the Lord did what Moses asked. The flies left Pharaoh and his officials and his people; not a fly remained.  But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go.

     

    There are modern day pharaohs in our world that mock God and seek to lead us into a global system that will require we reject God’s ways in favor of a godless way.

     

    Jesus asked, What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

     

    The seduction path has been slow and progressive – but we have gone much further than most of us even realize.

     

    The Great Awakening is not only coming – for those whose eyes are opened, it is already here.
    ? But will this be the very last call for repentance before it is indeed too late?

     

    So many have hardened their hearts to God and His Word.
    If it doesn’t agree with “their truth” then they angrily reject it.

     

    In 2022, we need to believe in the goodness and the grace of God

     

    Paul wrote in Romans 5:20: “…where sin increased, grace increased all the more”

     

    Spurgeon: “Even though it is out of the depths of the utmost distress that we seek God, we will find Him to be good to us.”

     

    Lam 3:22-26: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
