Matt 5:7: Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

    1 Cor 13:4-7:
Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong.  It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out.  If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.
(page 1863)

Micah 6:8 - No, the Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.
(page 1513)

Gal 2:20: My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
(page 1887)
Romans 5:8: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
(page 1828)

The Grace for a New Day

    1 Cor 13:4-7

I have been getting my hair cut at the same place for quite a while now.

The person who used to cut it is the manager of the store, now, and I never get an appointment time with her.

    She is always super busy.

Sometimes I can see that look on her face – that look that says there is too much going on at once – more than she can handle.

We should all be able to sympathize.

When you recognize that in a person, you are more apt to overlook someone being short with you – or maybe not even having the time to speak or be friendly.

John Watson, minister of the Free Church of Scotland:
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
    Be kind. Always.”

We all want to be shown grace in our lives – especially when the world is pressing in on us.

We must give it to others, too.  The grace to grow, the grace to change.

We know we are capable of better things – so is everyone else.

Matt 5:7: Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

    We have to show mercy.

Remember that time – remember now you acted out when you were having a bad day – or maybe a bad week. Or maybe a really tough period in your life.

Stop holding people hostage in your heart

I work a 7-day week every week. Sometimes I perform at a less than optimal level. Sometimes I get irritable.

I expect (for some reason) that people should understand and cut me some slack

…and yet, I may find myself put off by way someone else may deal with me

We have to show people grace, even if they don’t always deserve it.  ;)

1 Cor 13:4-7: Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude.

Love… will hardly even notice when others do it wrong”

Part of our purpose for coming together is to develop into the kind of Christian men and women we know we ought to become.

Becoming more and more Christ-like requires a healing in our souls

this healing in our lives seems to be a progressive gift - like the layers of an onion (am I wrong?)

    “the Gift of Repentance”

We need to repent of our unforgiveness – our grudges

WE are the Ones who need to be set free

Romans 12:6 - Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to useach of us is to use them accordingly

Eph 4 tells us that we are each to minister through the grace given specifically to each us through Christ:

Eph 4:12: - for the equipping of the saints, for the work of service, and for the building up of the body of Christ,

    The equipping of the saints

vs 7: “If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.”

Love believes all things [looking for the best in each one]

“If we treat people as if they were what they ought to be,
we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

If you treat people as they are, they will become worse.
If you treat them as they could be, they will become better.

If we treat people as if they were what (and who) they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.

vs 7: “If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.”

Love believes all things [looking for the best in each one]

“If we treat people as if they were what they ought to be,
we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

    always expect the best

Imagine how quickly all our relationships would change if we truly lived that way

When we’re treated this way, we have room to grow in grace and in service to the Lord and to others. We’re not restrained from improving

    On the flipside..
If people constantly remind us of our past mistakes or hold a grudge (unforgiveness) we cannot move on.
We can never become the person they really need us to become.

Micah 6:8 - No, the Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this:
to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.

“ … to show constant love”  to be merciful – to “love mercy
“Love… will hardly even notice when others do it wrong “

“Love does not remember the suffering that comes from being hurt by someone.”

That is not a denial of previous wrong-doing.

“The objective is to pass through the tunnel of grief, not to build a house in it."

It is a willingness to decide to move on –

to show grace, even as we (you – me) need and expect to be shown grace from the One Who has already provided us that grace through His one single sacrifice of Himself for us on the cross.

Sometimes we think when God works in someone’s life that their life INSTANTLY changes.

While yes, we serve the God of wonders who has done that in the past, more often than not God does a continual work of grace.

In other words, it’s not instant, but a process!

Today, if you’re not seeing change instantly—whether that be in someone else’s life or your own, know that just means the process isn’t complete yet.
But take heart… because anything God starts He completes!

Gal 2:20: My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

“Who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

“the One who loves me and gave His body on the cross for me.”

Romans 5:8: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

    (while we were yet sinners)

    Key:
“while we were yet sinners”   (     )  selah

2 Tim 1:9 - for He delivered us and saved us and called us with a holy calling [a calling that leads to a consecrated life—a life set apart—a life of purpose], not because of our works [or because of any personal merit—we could do nothing to earn this], but because of His own purpose and grace [His amazing, undeserved favor] which was granted to us in Christ Jesus before the world began [eternal ages ago]
