Fourth Sunday of Advent - 2022
Romans 8:31-39

Christmas Memories
Some are wonderful – some are maybe painful.

I think some of us may have a hard time admitting that there is a lot of baggage that comes with the Christmas season.

“There are moments when I wish I could roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I have the feeling that if I did, the joy would be gone as well.”

“Life is too short to start your day with the broken pieces of yesterday”

Sometimes when life is challenging, we find ourselves just wanting to get through it… whether it’s the hour, the day, the year, or…

“The journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life takes place.”

The good news of the gospel – the real and only reason we celebrate Christmas – is all about redemption – a redemption that says that no matter what our past looked like, God has a new future ready for us.

“If your story says that you are defined by what you have done in the past, you will almost certainly repeat that past on into the future. If you tell yourself a new story about how it’s possible to begin doing things differently in any moment, you can change your future, starting right now.”

? What is that “new story” we need to tell ourselves? It’s all about God’s love for us.

If we can grasp the concept that God loves us and is not about to give up on us, we can face life with a fresh confidence. No matter our age or our past.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him…”

Today, let God’s love for you heal your heart and restore your soul.

Yes, yours.


All my life I've been searching for that crazy missing part
And with one touch, you just rolled away the stone that held my heart
And now I see that the answer was as easy, as just asking you in
And I am so sure I could never doubt your gentle touch again
It's like the power of the wind

Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed
Until your love broke through
I've been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me Until your love, until your love, broke through.

Are you searching for wholeness in your life today?

God sent His son because we needed a savior.

“If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent a financier.
If pleasure, an entertainer. As it is forgiveness, He sent a Savior.”

We need a savior. We need our broken lives to be made whole again.

“Love Came Down At Christmas”
“Worship we the God-head, Love Incarnate, Love Divine.”

Eph 3:19 – “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.
Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

How can we know the Love of Christ?
God IS Love. That love is experienced in His Presence.

Would you be willing to set aside the cares of this life – the activities that await you after this service – and just BE in His Presence?

Jesus warned that our hearts can become thorny ground and “the worries of life, the deceitful pleasures of riches, and the desires for other things take over. They choke the word so that it can't produce anything.”

If your heart is thorny ground it can’t produce fruit for the Kingdom of God.

Eph 4:22 – “…throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.”

Would you be willing to set aside the cares of this life – the activities that await you after this service – and just BE in His Presence?
Our answers are awaiting in His Presence.
Practicing His Presence is the Gift we allow God to give us.
We have to make room for His Presence.

It’s been a busy season for all of us.
There was no room in the Inn. Is there room in your busy heart today?

Can you take time to "Be Still and Know?" - even in situations like this?
Of course you can.

Jesus said, “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”

There is a good kind of poverty – the kind that recognizes how empty and alone we are without God.

We’ve got to connect – and remain connected to our God – our source.

The Bible talks about “Dwelling in the Secret Place…”
“Abiding in Christ…”
Staying connected to the Vine *(Jesus)
“In Him we live and move and have our being.”

The more you connect with God’s Love and Power, the more you will reflect Him.

“Draw near to God…” He says He will never leave you nor forsake you.

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love.”

1 John 4:16 – “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.”

“The cares of this world” could also be translated “the fears of this present age.”

“Perfect love casts out fear.” If we are present in the moment, abiding in His love, we are not in fear.

Staying Present – in His Presence.

The love of Christ brings our lives back into Divine Order – and Divine Rest

Col 2:9,10: “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
“For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power;” (Geneva Bible, 1599)
You are to be in union with Christ – and be complete in Him.

We must learn to be “Complete in Him” NOW.

If we will live in the Present Moment – if we will abide in His Presence – we can once again discover we are “Complete In Him.”
If you will live in this revelation that you are, indeed, “complete in Him,” your whole life will change.

You can live in the moment and live in His peace.

“Peace on Earth” begins with Peace in our hearts. God’s Peace.

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love.”

God’s Love is there to fill the empty places – and mend the broken places in our hearts.

“Those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.”

Abiding is a choice. It is a deliberate act of faith to cast aside your doubts and fears and wait upon the Lord.

To live in His Presence in the Present moment.

Let His Presence touch you today.

Let His love fill you.

Let God’s love mend the broken places in your heart today.

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.
Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

1 John 4:16 – “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.”
